Receiving my Morkie Sunday! Hello All! I am REALLY nervous. I have been in contact with a breeder for months and my sweet Morkie is ready to come home. But....she has to be shipped. She is SO small. Has anyone received their puppy via airline? I know it isn't the best way but I feel in love with her and we knew we were going to have to ship her. Please anyone have any experience on this?? Thanks! |
There are some red flags here that would make me not buy from this breeder so in my opinion you have reason to worry. Reputable breeders generally use a person to fly on the plane and travel with the dog because small puppies should not be flown cargo even especially young puppies because it's dark and it's scary. Airlines loose dogs all the time as well. Then there is the fact that stress will make a puppies blood sugar drop and if no one is around to see that and get sugar into there system then they can go into having seizures and then that can lead to death. Also if the pup has not had all three sets of there shots they could also pick up Parvo or something else that could make them EXTREMLY sick. Also reputable breeders won't breed for mixes so they don't do the testing and know the lines of there dogs to make sure they are producing healthy pups without genetic issues and all the other things reputable breeders do. Even if a pup seems healthy they can sometimes not show symptoms or the issues for a couple of years. Buying from a breeder you can't go visit especially when they have red flags can be very dangerous because they can end up being a puppy mill and just be very good at playing off that they are not. |
Is there any way you can fly out and get her there are so many things that could go wrong when they are shipped. They are usually shipped in cargo and its not temperature controled. Also your pup could have a hypoglycemic attack especially because its so young and tiny. Also it just puts alot of stress on a pup when its shipped. I would never ship a pup |
Congratulations! I bet she is a cutie. I would probably want to fly to go get her and let her ride cargo with me. But, I've known dogs to be shipped and done very well and are fine. I think it would just make me nervous. |
It probably make anyone nervous. But i know a breeder who ships by air and seems to have worked. Whether. Its right or wrong its not for me to say. However i am happy for you. Nothing like a precious baby. Just take some nutral cal with you to pick him/her up. |
My puppy had to be shipped to me also and I was a nervous wreck about it. Just wanted to let you know that it turned out just fine for me. I am sure there are horror stories but my situation was very good. The attendant brought her out to me and gave her directly into my arms. When I opened the crate door, she came prancing out bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and wriggled right into my arms and heart. She was completely happy and not the least bit traumatized by the flight. |
How long is the flight? A courier could be an option too. There are usually extreme weather conditions that if they apply your pet will not be allowed to fly that day. I had a young puppy shipped to me one time. The shipping went fine but the overall experience was pretty terrible and I wish I had had closer connections with the breeder and the ability to check out their facilities etc. I know much more than I knew then but I ended up with a sick pup, some very high vet bills and a painful loss. Again- the shipping part went fine but it was also a larger breed dog. How old will your pup be? My parents fly to Alaska with their lab each year and she has to ride cargo- she is not a lap dog! Lol. It has gone well for them each time thus far. Good luck with your decisions :) |
