Update on bark genie I haven't had to use it since the trial run at the front door which was successful. Yesterday was the real test. My gardeners came which is always a bark fest for the whole time they are here. Well, I gave them a quick shot and not a single bark followed. They sat very nicely on the back of our chairs and watched them. I praised them for being such good kids. The next test is when we go to the dog park and Zoey goes berserk as soon as we turn into the lot to park. The barking will not stop and she is so loud that everyone looks. It is embarrassing. If it works then then I will be 1000% satisfied. Worth every penny. |
Good luck at the dog park, if you need to use it for your pups I can see all other dogs at the park freeze lol, with expressions on their face like WTF was that lol, probably causing them to associate seeing your pups with this weird noise, and being extra social when ever they see your babies enter the park area ,lol. |
No, no. The barking is in the car. Once we are out of the car she is an angel. She just gets so worked up when the car comes to a stop. |
I had similar models and they all worked great for a while, but at some point it didn't phase them anymore. Unlike you, I didn't reward them for not barking and I think that was where I made my mistake. I think if you use the words, "Good quiet", and occasionally treat them after they stop barking, you might have long term success. I had to just use the words alone with a treat and eventually they stopped barking on command, but it took much longer. Now I can say the words, and they will stop barking, looking for a treat. They say, you don't want them to completely stop barking, it's part of who they are and they should be allowed to bark a little at certain times especially to warn you of intruders, but they need to learn to stop when you give the command. I personally wouldn't use this at the dog park, remember, you'll be punishing all the dogs, even the quiet ones, it may be confusing for them. I'd save it for home use until she's really learned to stop barking just using the words "good quiet". Also, I think she's barking because she is fearful. Redirection is a useful technique, (turning and going away from the situation) and the more she goes to the park, the more she'll get use to the other dogs. You might then be able to use the good quiet words to calm her down at the park too. |
Again, I would not use it at the park. Only in the car when we arrive. After she is on the ground she is a perfect lady. She never barks inside the park. People have asked me if my dogs ever bark because they are so good. I would NEVER use it in the park - just inside the car. |
