Bloated After Eating So I noticed that Sammies belly seems so bloated after he eats. It does not always feel like that. I think it is just after he eats. What do you think it could be. I have to say he eats very fast. |
If he's bloated, it could be that an ingredient in his food isn't digesting easily, causing some bloat. If it continues, I'd probably change his food eventually. Does he also have gas? |
He may be eating so fast that he is swallowing a lot of air. Bubba eats so fast that he usually gives out a big burp afterward. There are special bowls that cause them to eat slower and if I remember correctly,I someone suggested putting a ball in their bowl so they had to work around it. If fast eating is not the problem, I would consult the vet. |
Oh he definitely eats fast. He inhales the food I don't even hear him chew. I try spreading it on the floor far about but he is like a vacumn sucking it up!! |
Good evening! This is my first time visiting here. I have two little yorkies, Milo and Otis. Milo has recently exhibited a swollen belly. He still eats, drinks, plays, potties, and everything else the same; it's just that his belly has started to appear bloated. I am curious as to how Sammie is doing and what you did to help him. |

How old is milo? |
He is 7 years old. |
He gobbles his food so I thought it would be trapped air. He does pass gas once in a while. I have tried a very small amount of gas-x and a teaspoon of pumpkin from the can. I just started using a bowl that makes him work for his food to help slow him down a little. He does not seem to be in any pain whatsoever. |
I would cut down meal size and feed more frequent meals. So if you feed once a day, I would cut the food in half and feed it twice a day instead of just once. If you feed twice a day, I would go to three times a day. |
Ok. Thank you! So, do you think I should not panic just yet? |

I tried to cut back Sammies food to smaller portions but he eats so fast I think that is the problem. Some days his stomach gets bloated and other days it is fine. It does not seem to bother him. I asked the vet and she said probably eating to fast and was not concerned. |

Good afternoon All! Milo has not been exhibiting any other signs or symptoms whatsoever; eating, drinking, pee, poop, and overall activities have been the same. The belly bulge was not getting bigger, but not getting smaller, either. He seemed fine; no signs of distress at all, but I couldn't handle it anymore. I took him to the vet and had some x-rays and labs run. The vet removed 2.2 lbs of clear fluid from his little belly. We also did an abdominal scope. Long story short, he was diagnosed with Lymphangiectasia. It can (and will) be treated with a low-fat diet, steroid pills, and vitamin injections. Since he was just diagnosed, we are in the early stages of seeing how he reacts to treatment. I ask all of you yorkie lovers for prayers for my little 7 year old Milo. Thank you so much! I believe he will be fine; but, prayers do help! |
