Scooter is obsessed with his Kong Wubba Scooter will not leave his Kong Wubba alone. He constantly wants me to throw it and tug on it with him. Well I can only throw it and tug on it for so long and when I try to quit, he shows up where ever I go with Mr. Wubba and throws it at my feet and barks. I started saying "all done" when we were finished playing and it works for awhile but not for long. I don't have the heart to take it away from he because he really, really likes it. Any suggestions? |

Max always has a toy for me, ready to play. He has been this way since he was a pup. When I cannot play, I acknowledge him and tell him he will have to wait: "You have a toy for me? Not right now. Later." I would try acknowledging and telling Scooter that he will have to wait. If he is like Max, you will have to tell him often, but he will learn to accept it without protest. |
OK I took your suggestions and first I tried to substitute another toy for the beloved Wubba but that was a no go. He totally ignored it. Then I told him "not now" and I walked away from him. He started barking and ran in front of me with Wubba. It was so cute but I was firm and he finally went in the other room and was chewing on Wubba. I'll try this until he understands that he cannot have me throw Wubba whenever he wants it thrown. Wish me luck:) |
1 Attachment(s) Can you believe the determination of these little ones?! Amazing, really! |
My pup has a soft duck and the moment I sit down he runs off crazy to find it and appears at my feet, he will sit up all straight with it in his mouth, then he will start trying to throw it up at me lol, when I can't play I tell him, "I see you with your toy, go play and I'll play later". Initially when I started saying this to him he would just persist but I continued (feeling guilty) and now he is great , will go play until I call him. It takes time and it's repetitive but it works. Good luck:) |
Lol my doxie of 17 years loved a tennis ball. She would bring it to me . But when i got tired she like yours would bark relentlessly. We even hid it and the little buggar would find it. One day she was at our huge china hutch. I let her look in it told her nothings in there. Then had to pick her up to the higher sheves she sniffed but would not quit whinning. So i reached to the very top and sure enough my husband hid it up there. Six feet this little girl smelled her ball. How did we stop it just took it away permanately. She rolled that ball with her nose to everyone of my six grandchildren. When they were on their bellys learning to crawl. |
