Goop In Eyes Our little man Carl has had some goop in his eyes the last 1-2 weeks every now and then. It's slightly discolored(not yellow or green, but just like an off white). It's mainly after he's been sleeping and so I've been using a warm wash cloth to wash his face. Any ideas on what this might be? A cold?? He's never had any issues in the past, I did call his vet and the receptionist said he should be seen to see if there is anything in/on his eye, however I don't think there is since it's happening to both eyes. He's also been licking more often than normal, could he have allergies?? I appreciate any feedback! |
I cant answer your question. But when i got boo the first few weeks he got matter in his eyes. But i changed foods to wellness core for little dogs. I have noticed the matter is gone . Dont know if it was from food or not. But they are pretty and clear. |
What is he licking? If he's licking and chewing his paws - then yes, it's likely allergies as that's the cardinal sign. More about allergies and what to do here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...tart-here.html As for goop - if he does have allergies, eyes can be more irritated. Could also be due sometimes to the food they're eating - so if there are no allergies, you may want to try switching to a different kind of food. What are you feeding now? If you want to switch, I'd choose a different protein source and carb source to see if there is a difference. :) Btw, welcome to YT :)! |

Thank you! We feed Taste of the Wild, Southwest Canyon w/ Wild Boar --- he's been on a grain free food for awhile (used to eat NutriSource) but we switched in July to Taste of the Wild because we got another dog(english mastiff) who is allergic to chicken so we just feed them both the same thing. He does lick his paws sometimes, but he mainly licks things like blankets or my clothes. |

That's a really nice food you're feeding...but who knows if something in it is causing some eye discharge. Did the eye stuff start *after* you switched foods, I wonder? Some people here swear by giving bottled purified water (Gerbers Nursery Water) to decrease eye stuff. It truly works for some. Maybe soemthing you try? Does he lick his paws all year round, or just during pollen seasons? If all year round, then if it's allergies it's most likely something like dust/enviro, rather than pollen/seasonal. |
My Yorkie never gets goopy eyes, but my 4 month old Shih Tzu has it every morning. He started getting it about a week after we got him. It looked a little green so I took him to the vet and he was prescribed eye drops for conjunctivitis. Well, after 2 weeks on that it never went away, but it doesn't look green anymore. More of dirty white I guess would be the best way to describe it. I spoke to the vet again and she was not too concerned. She said as long as it's not green, just wipe it away each morning. Never hurts to have the vet take a look at it just in case. |
