It was very difficult to find proper authentic reading material on how to get your dog registered as an ESA. My doctor knows nothing about animal laws and simply wrote a truthful letter stating my mental illnesses and that having my dog with me helps my mental illnesses. After that, I leave it up to the discretion of the businesses to whether they want to let my dog in, or not. I do not feel morally wrong for doing this. I live in a city where girls carry their small dogs in their purse all of the time without having any physical or mental disabilities, such as I have. Many may not agree with their actions, but personally I think we all have MUCH bigger problems to worry about. |
How great to live in a dog friendly environment! I always look for that when I am planning a vacation! You state you have a mental illness. Some mental health diagnoses might qualify you for a Psychiatric Service a Dog - would depend on your diagnosis and your needs. Your dog who have to be taught specific individual tasks that you require. California has about 3 state certified service dog schools with state certified trainers who could help you and your dog with those tasks (they have to be more than support and comfort). California is one of the states that requires that in addition to the Federal Laws. |
