Home Alone ii
 

We two have now been alone since October the 1st (mom's away until Nov 20th with her new grand daughter in Belarus). When this happened, for only a fortnight last year Crystal (who'd then been with us 3 months, from twenty two weeks old as we were her second home) pined dreadfully. Her stomach was effected badly and she rarely moved from Mom's bed and indeed nearly dug through the wall to access her room when I went out and forgot to leave the door open one day. Throughout that trial 'Jeanie' (Yorkietalkjilly) was so supportive to both of us in settling her down and I'll never forget her kindness.

This time it's so different. With me being a creature of disciplined habit, we have synced our lives perfectly. She moves aside when I come back to bed in the night, does a lot of intense digging to get under the duvet and then snuggles down, never moving from her foetal stance curled up as close to me as she can get. However if I move, she's up like a rocket following Dad wherever he goes. Sometimes we have 3am nibbles from the fridge together!

When I'm on the Mac in the kitchen, she's either up on the table with me, or on my bed watching from afar like a faithful bodyguard. Meal times and our daily 'constitutionals' on the beach are equally co-ordinated, as of course are meal times. Weekly we travel 15 miles or so to lunch at our friends delightful country pub where she sits most correctly besides me in her 'under arm carrier' on the bench seat. She enjoys meeting her growing 'public' at this event and if we miss a week, there are many 'disappointments' apparently. We do 'see' Mom' most days on Skype, but this past week she's been away to her parents in the South of the country, no computer and mobile reception virtually non existent.

Tonight upon 'Moms' return to Minsk (the capital), she was very intent in seeing and hearing her pack member again, but I get the feeling she's 'switched off', certainly far more laid back about the whole affair, (perhaps as a defence default) from pining this time. Also of course she's older and far more settled than last year. I'd be quite content to have lived here with a Yorkie, (had I known their traits) 17 years ago when my beloved late wife died, but I was working then and it would have been unkind to leave such a 'humanized' creature alone for many hours.

I was trying to explain this bond, twixt man and dog to my bereaved cousin of a year on Friday. Unfortunately she's not an animal person, which is a shame as these little dogs are such good and loyal friends to live with, but I guess we all know that here.:animal37

What sentiment... a testament to your caring nature and ability to overcome the odds!


I think, though, maybe you're just a ladykiller and Crystal was playing hard to get.


You've won each other over and now it will be Mom who is jealous when she returns!

Thank you both, I should add that seeing my wife's lovely face again last night was a real boost. Truth known we both miss her dreadfully, but have each other to help us distract our sadnesses from time to time.

Crystal is such a lucky girl to be loved so very much by you and Irina. It is heartwarming to see the bond you have and see it get even closer over time.
