My Yorkie Has A Underbite... My yorkie has an underbite. I noticed two of her back teeth aren't falling out. They are holding on for dear life slightly at the root of her gums. Her mouth hurts when I brush her back teeth due to this issue. She tries to keep her mouth shut tight when I try to brush her teeth. How long should I wait to see if they will fall out on there own? She is 6 months now. I notified her breeder about the issue, and she told me that her father had an underbite too. I thought good breeders wouldn't breed yorkies with underbites. She told me she replaced him, since my dog developed an underbite. My vet said she shouldn't have any issues due to it, and they should fall out eventually. She eats ok, so I guess I shouldn't worry about it to much. |
When you have her spayed at around 7 months or so, any retained baby teeth should absolutely be removed then. I assume you have her as a pet and not for breeding? Never ever breed her as she will throw undershot and it will follow into the next generations. And you are right, the breeder never should have used that male if he was undershot, bite is so hereditary either over or undershot. I also have learned that if a undershot eventually corrects in an older puppy say over 6 months or so, it will throw undershot despite what a breeder claims about bites correcting. Got undershot in the line, you will produce it. It is one of the lesser problems that can come up as far as health wise but it is not desirable in the breed. Shih Tzus and Lhasas, Bulldogs are a different story but in YOrkies other than correct scissor bite or even bite is acceptable, I would not mess with under or overshot in a breeding program. |

Ok. Thank you for the advice. Stay blessed. |
If this is the pup you had shipped on the truck with other dogs then she wasn't a good breeder and we already told you that. When you get her spayed the vet shoukd also pull any left baby teeth. If they are hurting her I would go ahead and get it done. |
