Question on tails Macy's tail always hugs her butt. She can wiggle it fast or slow but it doesn't stick up when she wags her tail..... it's straight out behind her when she wags it. Molly is the complete opposite...hers sticks straight up and is always waving like a flag. Macy came from a hobby breeder...did the breeder mess up her tail when it was docked? I've always wanted to ask this question but keep forgetting until I give Macy a bath and have to raise her tail. |
I think it's an individual thing. Sometime my girl's tail is way up, especially in earlier days, and other times it's not quite as high. The breeder themselves do not dock tails (at least I would hope not) it's the vet. |
Most good breeders study the breed and learn to dock tails correctly. I would rather have a good knowledgeable breeder dock the tail than I would the average vet. Good breeders know exactly what length it should be for that particular breed and they also base it on body structure and size. I read some threads here where some excellent breeders describe the process, and held the tail in such a way that they knew where exactly to dock it, (something about pulling it down). Also using the right tools, they don't cut it off, but use some type of instrument that cuts the supply and it twists off with no blood involved. Unfortunately, most breeders aren't good breeders, they breed their pets and think reading a few sites on the internet means that they have studied, in this case they should always see a vet for the procedure. Macy's breeder may have done some damage when she docked the tail. I think it should stand up. |

So you think Macy might have some nerve damage to her little nub? She doesn't act like it hurts her, but her nub stays against her butt. When she is happy or annoyed, she will wag it back and forth but it sticks straight out then.....never straight up. |
Zoey's tail was docked to a medium length and it stands up over her back with long hair trailing off of it. I had a lady tell me that she had a "happy" tail. Now my Gina had a short stubber and it was always tight to her butt. Both tails are cute. |
