Just Adopted a Female 6 year old yorkie need help! I just recently adopted a female Yorkie she is 6! She is the best! I was told that she was completely house trained and used pee pads...well that doesn't seem to be the case. I absolutely love her. She is by my side the whole time I'm home. She tends to use the bathroom when I'm sleeping at night or when I'm not home during the day which is about 4 hrs . I confine her to a small space. I have had her for about 5 days. She is the sweetest I just have to get this potty thing under control! Any help or comments would be appreciated!! |
Congratulations on your new baby!!:) since you have had her just a few days shes probably trying to adjust to her new happy home. I'm not good at advising but to me she seems to prefer her run area at this time maybe because that's where she feels free and safe to potty. If she isn't using the house all over that's a big plus for the little girl:) Sounds like you already love her so very much and she seems so thankful to you. She's following you so close just waiting to tell you she loves you too!!It will take time for you both to adjust but those days really do go by quickly and the reward is sooooo worth every effort you will ever make. Just think of all the snuggles and kisses she will give for your open arms to her! |
Congrats on your new furbaby. I agree that she might just be trying to adjust to her new space. When we moved from one home to another, my Diva was a bit confused so I had pads strategically placed in the areas where she was most for about a month. Then I was able to transition her to the central location for her pad and she's done well since. Your sweetie will get there. Please share pics when you can. |

1 Attachment(s) I adopted Piper about 6 months ago; my vet thinks she's 4yrs old. And samething!!! I was told she was housebroken, etc--not so. But I leave pads out when I work and she does pretty well. It took several weeks, but when I'm home, Piper is, for all intents and purposes, housebroken (to outside). I, too, fell totally in love with Piper within moments and she reciprocates more everyday. And you know what? In order to avoid any upsets on either Piper or me insofar as housebreaking, I bought an easy to handle/store, $100 steam cleaner and life is good! All the best to you and your precious girl--she's the best thing you've ever done, believe me!!! |

I know some people have pads in one place and then when they leave the house they put the dog in another place i.e. a bathroom, and put pads in there. In my opinion, this causes confusion. I train my dog where I want her to go, from the beginning. Her potty spot never changes. She knows, no matter where she is at in the house, where she needs to go to, to go potty, and she goes there. Best of luck getting the pottying under control. She sounds like a real sweetie. You're lucky to have found each other! |
