Erg...time to neuter :/ And Sheldon officially became a humper of stuffed toys tonight...lol. Scheduling a neuter within the next few weeks ;) |
Well I thought it was going to help but mine was neutered 3 weeks ago and still humps anything he can get his little paws on!! It is always at night too. I have to hide all the blankets and pillows in the house!! |

Neutering may or may not help. All 3 of mine hump a bit - the 2 boys have a 'lover dog' with whom they have dates. And our girl, Pfeiffer, humps her donut bed which is just hysterical bc she makes these funny noises. |
My Jeter is 15 weeks old and humps his 9 year old brother constantly when they play. My Vet said the soonest he can be neutered is 5 months. Poor DaVinci, although he doesn't seem to mind the silly puppy's behavior. |

All of my intact dogs don't hump anything usually, unless a female is in heat in the house. Then occasionally they will try to hump a toy or a leg, not to mention a female in heat if she was allowed to be in their company:) As puppies I redirect humping behaviour with the usual training methods. Distraction with a toy, food treats, obedience commands, and good tiring out exercises. Humping behaviour to humans or other animals can be a sign of dominance behaviour, or can simply be a result of excitation of hormones for what-ever reason. In any case your response is simple, re-direct to more acceptable behaviour. Just my two cents worth |
I definitely believe it's a dominance behavior with Jeter, he's definitely an alpha male. DaVinci has never been an alpha and is a pretty mellow guy, he's always been more of a lap dog. I noticed that when my neighbor 's dog came running over to play with Jeter before she could get the leash on her he immediately took a very submissive posture and put his head down, laid down and rolled onto his back. He's not at all scared of her and he loves to play with her, she's quite big compared to him and so gentle with him. She's used to playing with her son's 3 lb female Yorkie. Funny thing is when she's on a leash he is not at all submissive. |
