Wee wee pad Sasha loves to tear up her potty pad. What can I do to prevent this behavior? Thanks |
Sophie did the same thing until I got her a large tray and pads for it. She now hits the spot every time and not longer rips them up. |
Hi Sasha, Believe it or not, sometimes it's the brand of the pad and the way it smells. Our puppy always seemed to tear up his Natures Miracle wee wee pads (they were scented), but once we switched to Four Paws pad, it stopped. Go figure:confused:. Hope that helps and good luck.:) Quote:

Max did a little of this when he was a pup. I gave him a firm "no" when he did it and he quickly grew out of it. You can try a tray holder, or use washables. |
1 Attachment(s) I got Teddy one of these holders which can be found on Amazon for around $15: |
There are washable pads that might be more resistant to puppy teeth. ![]() There are folks on eBay that sell them, too. |
My stitch did that same thing often, but one day i bought adult bed chucks, same type item just bigger and less expensive, and within 15 mins she began using them correctly without prompting. I just put it out in the normal spot and she did the rest. I dont know if the puppy version scents cause it or if its something in the material, but she knew what she was supposed to do and never had a problem since the switch. |
We just use washable pads to prevent this and to save some dough ;) |

Are washables really good? We're using the regular puppy pads and my two are all of a sudden getting into the habit of tearing them apart. I don't want them to choke on any paper or get themselves sick from it. How do you go about cleaning them? Washer and dryer? |

We just finished a box of 100 in less than a month, probably 3 weeks. We ordered one of those grass looking potty's and both of mine seem to think it's some evil invention. They refuse to use it and are searching everywhere for their pads. |
I'm afraid to try to change their potty, especially my puppy. They also go outside to potty during the day. I will not take them outside in the dark, you can't see if there are frogs or snails in the grass, not worth the risk. I went through 120 pads in 1 month. |
Im not sure, but i think my sisters 2 use about 2-3 pads a day, ill ask if that includes kennel ones, stitch can use an adult bed pad 3 times to urinate, and she doesnt stop drinking, she howls if she doesnt have a water bowl in, my bathroom plus she has 2 beds in there, my bedroom, the living room and kitchen. With so much drinking and pad changes every 2-3 hours i dont know if my numbers help, but i buy the chucks at 5cents each sometimes i find big packs250-300 for 8 bucks, but i go thru medical supply companies, they r much cheaper than walmart etc, plus they ship to ur door overnight. The medical supply ones also use 100% cotton in the pad, ill call my sister later this morning n ask, but i am 90% sure her girl missy quit after switching as well. Anyway have a great morning folks, its 5am, the weather is great and the woods is calling me n stitches names!! |
