orkie with collapsed trachea - trimming nails
 

Its been a while since i've been on here.sorry if this is long.Meeshas been recently diagnosed with collapsed trachea.it began to appear this summer. I'm now having issues with trimming her nails, she gets so stressed and anxious she gets to a point she can barley breathe, it scares me so i end up being unable to do them, i've been massaging her feet as a baby , give rewards etc..shes fine with me touching her feet, fine when i trim the fur on her feet with sissors, but when it comes to nail trimming, she screams(yes not cry , she wails as if shes being murdered) , shes always been like this but i got through it. Now i can't get through it because he breathing gets so bad shes going to pass out. the only one who can do it is a vet tech. my other dog milo who dosent have collapsed trachea is the same way but i end up having to stop because he not only gets anxious(unlike meesha hes fine because he can still breathe) he hits me in the head with his head, bites the nail clippers and scratches me... so both dogs i can massage thier feet trim thier feet, but go pshyco when i try to trim thier nails, i've tryed rewards, putting a blanket over thier eyes, had other people help, but cant hold them still enough, to get the nail trimmed...what can i do , its 18$ each plus tax for nail trims, it just cost me with tax 42$ today. with all of meeshas vet bills for her ct, i was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions for how i can trim them myself...meesha is 3 and milo is 1 years old.
sorry that was so long, i just thought id give it one last shot and see if anyone else had a yorkies like this, and were able to overcome it and how?

What about filling them? Or using on of the pedicure for dogs filling tools?

Don't have suggestions about the nail trims because i can not do mine either. I have to take him to the groomer. Sorry to hear about Meeshas CT. With the medicine they have now I have heard of a lot of dogs that lead a long life with CT. Some people on here have dogs with it and hopefully can give you some advice.

Two suggestions: Speak to your vet and get a prescription for a calming pill

thanks!, i get more help on here than at the vet, i think i'm going to switch vets..they wont give her any perscription anxiety pills or anything.. actually, i keep paying 60$ for an appointment to see them, and they never give me a solution for anything, i've been arguing she has an upper respitory infection since the summer,they keep saying they don't administer drugs unless they feel it necessary, she wakes up and her eyes are flemmed shut.. not the usual eye gunk..and i can hear her nose clogged..about the nails, im scared her fur is going to get caught in the filing tool? can that happen?i tryed the towel thing and she panicked,lol.. i heard another vet in town only charges 10$ for nail trims.. i'm going to try them.. they start dog school tommorow, maybe that might help her with her anxiety, and make her panick less over things like nail trims lol 2 yorkies are alot of work, but i love them aaha, i have no idea how people juggle 5+ yorkies lol

Try using a Dremel rotary tool. I have always used Dremels for nail trimming. You will need to slowly condition her to the sound and all but they get used to it like electric trimmers.

Can the fur get caught? Im terrified it'll get caught and rip her fur out and then she'll be even more traumatized, or is there a guard on it to prevent that from happening?

Never had a problem with tangle in hair. There are some good you-tube vids on how to do it. The main thing is using the right tip.
