Feeding dishes that slow down eating Ok so I have one that likes to suck down her food in like ten seconds, then chokes on it. there are a lot of feeding dishes out there for slowing down our pups eating. Do you guys recommend one over the other? |
I have heard some have successes with just putting a tennis ball in the food bowl. |
If I'm going to put a lot of food in Chloe's bowl that she can eat as 1 portion I just divide it. I'll let her have half and then in 10 minutes the other half. You could try this? I home cook though, so it is not dry food but I think this should help if you can't find a bowl that will work. |
Never had to use them but know people that have. They use those ones with the molds/hills in the middle. I think that the more you expect her to slow down the more "hills" you will want in the dish. |
Well I have a tennis ball or a thousand here, so ill try that first . thanks all. Its my new pup Amber that scarfs down her food, then trys to go after everyone elses. little piggy..lol |
Teddy does this, too! Let us know if the tennis ball works? I have been using the Kong treat dispenser some nights but he seems to get frustrated with the effort if he's really hungry at the time. |
We use feeding puzzles. I like the Nina Ottosson puzzles. Meals last about 20 minutes now and they love it - we have 4 that we rotate. Here is her website but they are cheaper on amazon. Nina Ottosson Dog Activity treat puzzle games and toys |
The Tennis Ball did NOT work......lol....only slowed her down by about 2 seconds. then she picked it up and put it out of her bowl. But even if she hadn't, it wouldnt have sowed her down |
You could try putting a few golf balls in her bowl...I know the tennis ball didn't work, but maybe 3 golf balls would...? |

lol! how smart! I have had to split Teddy's feedings over two times a day so I'm no good with suggestions but I do sympathize! |

oh I always feed mine twice a day. they cant go that long without eating to only feed them once or they start getting sick and throwing up bile from being too hungry. the problem isnt the amount. its that she eats so fast she ends up choking herself. |
Let me know how it works if you try it. Sammie eats so fast he gets a big belly full of gas right after he eats!! I don't even think he chews it. |
