Help! Waking up with hair in eyes because of nose hair I'm having a lot of trouble trying to keep the nose hair away from the eyes. I tie Chloe's hair at bedtime but in the morning she wakes up with her eyes full of hair which scares me because this shouldn't be happening. I have not touched the hair at all on her face or nose and she's turning 1 next week which makes me think that this was enough time for the hair to lay flat? She has long pieces but recently right at her nose new little hairs have started to grow in. I'm assuming because her coat is getting thickness. When she goes to bed what happens is the nose hair ends up going upward into her eyes. Her nose hair is also wet most of the time. I really don't know what to do or if I'm doing something wrong but I know she shouldn't be waking with hair in her eye. Please help :( |
hmm the only thing I can think of is getting her to the groomers and ask for advise or have them trim the hairs around the area down. I keep me girl's face cut down but she's starting to grow hair pretty fast lol |
I don't think you're doing anything wrong at all - many yorkies wake up w/ quite a messy face :p. As their hair continues to grow longer, it seems to stay better out of their faces. Maybe you could take a picture of what is happening that's concerning you - I'm not quite sure I'm visualizing it or understanding it correctly...? |
Every morning I comb Bentley out and do his face and eyes with a warm wash cloth and get the "sleep" from his eyes. Someone on YT mentioned Gerber's Nursery water to help with the eyes making stains and I have been using it. It does help with the amount of eye discharge. As Ann said it would be great to see a photo of her. :) |
MY groomer who also worked as a profession handle r said to wash and dry well in morning and evening then use a small dab of neomycin ointment or petroleum jelly to train it to grow down. I wasn't quite comfortable with it so near the eyes but do use erythromycin ointment that I use at work when newborns are born. It keeps their hair out of the eyes and it's starting to grow away from the eyes. It's very safe and you don't have to continually trim around the eye s. |
The nose hair is actually fine during the day so in pictures it lays down flat and looks nice and neat.. the problem is bed time. When she lays on the side of her face the nose hair ends up going upward somehow and I guess because she sleeps on the side for a long time it gets stuck in her eye, if that makes sense? I don't know why this keeps happening but she wakes up in the am with hair glued to her eyes and it really scares me because this could create an eye problem. Would it be a good idea to put bands lightly on the nose hair at night? I've seen this before done to show dogs but I'm getting a little desperate here with these nose hairs :( |
Her nose hair also has "volume" in it.. it puffs out and won't lay down straight like I see in pictures of yorkies. I have no idea how to make it stay put. |
i f your baby is anything like mine she will just see it as a challenge to get it off her nose. I also don't like to leave bands in my dogs hair during the night because I'm afraid of breaking the hair. They still wear top knots during the day but I take them down every night. |
1 Attachment(s) Does Chloe sleep inside the covers? Princess & Turbo does & when I wake up, their side nose hairs are all messed up & in their eyes. I need to brush it down & clean their eyes every morning...sometimes day & night too. That's the downside of having long hair. You can tie the sides of her mouth, it keeps it from getting wet when eating & drinking too. This was when Mimi had floor length hair. Attachment 402004 |

Does Mimi have a braid? I love it, so adorable! |
Those little hairs can drive you crazy. Gracie was over a year before hers were all grown out but you will always, from time to time, have new hair growth. The Neomycin is a good idea as it helps weigh the hair down and will help prevent infection if the hairs are irritating the eye. You can use plain petroleum jelly if you want. The Neomycin uses it as a base anyway. You could put a little on her nose hair just before bed. Long haired dogs do need attending to in the morning just like we do. If you want her to have long hair then it is something you will have to deal with daily. They do sell hair gel for dogs but Gracie hated the stuff and it caused her to rub her face into the rug. Not good. It had a scent to it that I guess she did not like at all. |

What is this 'neomycin'? I googled & it's some sort of anti-biotic? |
Teddy often gets his mustache in his eyes when he snuggles at night. I comb it down when I go to bed, and I do it first thing when we wake up. |
