Nasty knots Is there anything that's really good at helping with getting some really nasty knots out, other than shaving. Gina has some big knots around her neck, from her harness, she has a different kind now, also a couple on her sides. I'd really rather not have her shaved, but I really need to get these knots out. I know I've seen people suggest things for this before But I couldn't find the old posts, I'm very grateful for any help. Cheers Quad & Gina:aimeeyork |
I saturate it with coconut oil and carefully work it out with my fingers and a rat tail comb. If you can't get it out, cut it with thinning shears and then try again, repeat as needed. |
I had some of the same issues...someone suggested the coconut oil but I didn't have any on hand....another suggested cornstarch. That I had...and it worked pretty well. Winnie isn't the greatest for grooming when it comes to tangles so that was my biggest problem haha |
I am rather fond of a brand of detangler called cowboy magic. I suppose it's for horses but I'm not so sure- I use it on my own hair and honestly can't beleive I lived without it! It is my go to with lilah as well, before grooming I rub her whole coat down with it and re apply in more tangly areas (like if I put her in a t shirt and forget I've sworn them off because this one is really cute) and it works very well. We use our madden pin brush from topline pet and then follow up with a metal straight comb. If I didn't follow up with the comb the more tangly tangles wouldn't come out. I read somewhere on here someone say they cut in an upward direction when they found a mat or notable tangle and that that helped them brush out what they could- I liked this idea and plan to employ it if necessary in the future. Good luck! :yorkieg: |

I use Pet Silk silk serum, and like Show Girl Lola, use a rat tail comb. Hold a section of hair and use the steel tail of the comb (pointing downward away from your pup's body) to detangle. Corn starch also works to give the hair slip. Go slow and work on small sections making sure not to tug at your pup's skin. |

Thanks for all the replies, we have some VOS on hand and corn starch, will give those a try first. Where can I find Cowboy Magic, or pet silk silk, I have the feeling that this will be an on going problem once Gina starts wearing her service dog vest. Again thanks for the responses and ideas.
