Hello everyone - I'm a newbie :) Hello everyone! I decided to join and become a member here after reading through many posts to learn more about yorkies. I've been trying to find out as much as possible about yorkies and breeders as I'm looking for a new puppy. I'm super excited because I think I found one and I'm going to visit the breeder this weekend. Just a quick question...is there such a thing as a price that's too low? The breeder I found is actively competing in dog shows each year (I've seen their names on many dog show competitions), but I was surprised that their asking price for their puppy is less than $1000. It seemed too good to be true. Thoughts? |
Welcome to YT for that price I would buy 2. Do you know how old this puppy is? some breeders hold on to puppies that appear to be good quality for showing. As the puppy grows and develops the breeder may spot a quality that would not be acceptable as a "show quality" dog. Sometimes these puppies can be 4, 5 even 6 months old. If they are older then 12 weeks a breeder "may" sell for less because most ppl want puppies as soon as they come from the momma's womb, meaning they want young puppies, the younger, the better and sell fast. If the pup is 5 or 6 months old they are harder to sell, so they will drop the price. I am not a breeder, my brother use to breed and show St. Bernard's this is where I am getting my information from. We have several breeders here that I am sure will respond to your question. Matese - thanks for the info. The puppy is 5 months old. Your explanation really helped and I feel better knowing that. I was feeling a little skeptical but now I'm really excited, I can't contain myself!! :) I've been looking for so long! |

I agree that the reason the puppy is priced so low is most likely due to the age. You should ask the breeder how much they were asking for the puppy initially, or how much they typically sell their puppies for up front. Also, like the previous poster said, don't jump on this puppy just because it's the first one you found. Do your homework; research the breeder and ask to see the puppy's mom and dad. If they are a reputable breeder, they will be up front and honest with you, and willing to answer any questions you may have as far as the price of the puppy, where it came from, etc. |
Thanks lyssaw519! That's a good suggestion. I am meeting them next weekend, so I'll be sure to ask them. Haha..this isn't the first puppy I've found. I've been talking to a few breeders already and I think this one is one that I'm most comfortable with. It seems there are other very nice breeders out there, who really really love yorkies, but they seem to be breeding them to make money. This breeder I've found now is very reputable. Other reputable breeders in the area (who don't currently have puppies available) say wonderful things about them. And they only breed very few litters a year, and only for dog show purposes. |
