One dropped testicle not neutered should I wait My beautiful 7 month boy has not been neutered yet, he has only one dropped testicle:eek::eek: The vet has discussed about having it done a special way where they will put camera in to find the other one:( because he is small 6lbs I have read that sometimes the other will drop later, and was wondering if anyone experienced a late dropper! We are back in the vets next week to arrange his procedure:(. :aimeeyork Thanks |
my suggestion is to follow your vets advise. There are no vets on YT, just members with years of experience that can offer suggestions, advise and their own experience's. Medical issues your vet is your best resource. |

From what I have read here and elsewhere, the likelihood that an undescended testis will drop decreases with age. The procedure for taking care of this is more invasive than a standard neutering, as your vet has explained, often compared to the level of risk of spaying a female. Follow your vet's advice. Ask him if he has performed this procedure before. As long as to trust his/her skill, I would go ahead if this were my pup. Best wishes and keep us posted. |
Thanks Matese I wasn't looking for any vet advice, was just asking about others experience. |
Thanks Maximo I will be going ahead with the procedure and will let you know how he recovers:aimeeyork Hope your beautiful boys are well |
Bogey was neutered at over a year old and he had one descended testicle at his neuter. My vet tried to fell to find it prior to surgery but it was not palpable and he might need a more expensive surgery but would try to push it down before doing a more invasive procedure. Luckily, he was able to retrieve it with a regular neuter incision and he did not need to do the more invasive procedure. Did your vet mention this at all to you? |
I lost my precious boy to cancer from undescended testicles. The vet stupidly said it wouldn't be a problem and as this was before the internet, I believed him. Now I think I'd do everything possible to get the darned thing out of there before anything happens. Please listen to your vet and take care of this before anything can happen to him. |
One of my fosters was undesended at an estimated age of 2.5-3 years. The neutering was pretty extensive. He recovered of course but was probably the worst post op neuter I've ever had done. He was around 7 lbs. According to my vet it would have been much easier on him to have had it done on at an earlier age. |
Is there a problem with waiting a little longer? By the way, one of the breeders here said that a dog's humping can help the testicles drop, lol, does he have any favorite love toys? |
Dinky was neutered at 7 months, and he had the same condition. In our case too, the vet was able to reach the undescended testicle without the more invasive procedure. So that does happen. I'd ask the vet about that possibility, but yes, do what vet suggests. |
I had one male neutered at around 7 months because he had an undescended testicle. The vet only charged $25 extra and the total bill was just around $125. The dog did great after the surgery. I think some vets just like to hype up the procedure so they can charge more money. |
Your vet does know best as far as finding that other little sucker! When I was a tech and we had a cryptorchid sometimes the other one was right there and just needed a little nudge down. Other times it required a second incision to find it. Depending on how tiny it was or where it was located made the difference on cost. If it was easy there was no extra charge. If it required a hunt there was usually a 20$ fee. Hopefully your vet won't gouge you ;-) but I think you are wise doing it sooner rather than later. Hope everything goes smooth for your little man! |
