Refusing to poop outside if it's wet or raining I am at my wits end here! If it's the least little bit wet outside (like it has rained earlier) or sprinkling or ANYTHING Cali will not poop outside no matter how many times I take her out. Which means she ends up going in the house. Does anyone have any tips on breaking her of this??? It's been raining all week and I am sick of her pooping in the house! |
We have had rain all week, too. I put a piece of newspaper down in the garage for Ziva... |
Well if you absolutely know she has to go stay outside until she does. Have you thought of a rain coat? Tofab.com has nice ones, Callie has one and then my mom just bought one for her yorkie when she takes him for walks when it's raining. |

We sometimes have an accident when it first starts raining here. I am pretty persistent and when I know she has to go, I just stay outside with her until she goes. Then I give tons of positive reinforcement and special freeze dried fish just like when we were training. It doesn't take to long before she gets the idea that as soon as she goes, all is well and she is inside out of the wet and gets that special treat and lots of hugs. |
And that's why mine are trained for outside and the Potty Pad. Does she pee outside and just doesn't want to poop?? |

I would watch her like a hawk when it rains & rush her outside as soon as you see her looking for a poop spot. Keep her outside till she goes, then lots of treats & praise. |

1 Attachment(s) I recently bought an outdoor 'beach' umbrella and put it up in Piper's outdoor area. At the first hint of rain, I opened the umbrella; later in the day (still heavy drizzle) I let Pipe out--who promptly turned to come in, but when I showed her to umbrella area, she relaxed. The remainder of that rainy day whenever I let Piper out, she terrier-trotted to her oasis from the wet and did her business. Yeah!!! What a good, good little girl I have...! |
If she refuses to go even after being out for a long time, then I would watch her like a hawk after you come in, and the second she tries to poo inside I would bring her outside. Or if you don't catch her, bring her out after? Maybe you could keep her leash on when you come in? |
