Yorkie has started avoiding us Our Charlie is 7 now and up until we moved house last December was always very affectionate to all the family. After we moved he seemed to develop an allergy and started going off by himself during the day and sleeping on our bed, he never went upstairs in our last house. We thought it was because he wasn't feeling well and it has taken a long time to sort out his skin problem, but it's been ok for a few weeks now. The thing is, he is still avoiding us and going off to a room on his own all the time. I often go and bring him downstairs but when we aren't looking he sneaks off again. He also used to love going to for walks, but now he often stops walking and refuses to walk any further. We just don't know what the reason is. We have taken him to the vet and had a check up and blood tests and they have found nothing wrong. Our cat died a few weeks ago and we wonder whether he misses her? But they didn't really get on well so I don't think it can be that. Has anyone got any ideas? We want our loving pet back and I worry there is something wrong with him |
That's a tough one. How is his eating habits? Has anything change in your household like added new furniture or change furniture around? I know my little one's habits changed once and it was because of a new piece of furniture I bought. I figure this out by covering it up. I think she was afraid of it (which she got over). As long as you ruled out anything physical, it has to be something in his mind that has changed. |
Well yes, because of moving we have changed a lot of furnature and have rearranged it a few times also. He seems to be slightly off his food also. I wonder if you are right and he's afraid of the new furnature, the only thing which hasn't changed is the sofa so it would be difficult to cover it all up. After you covered your new furnature up did he eventually get used to it? Also Charlie had operations for luxating patella quite a few years ago and I wonder whether he has arthritis which is causing him pain, but he doesn't limp. |
I remember reading one of the post where a member's yorkie would hate it if the lamp (or something else) is moved to a different location? Yavenay talked about new furniture... How about old furniture? Did you get rid of anything you had before that might've been Charlie's favorite or something he enjoyed being on? |
My sister's vet told her that they will grieve for the loss of another pet in the house. Maybe that is the problem??? I hope you get your Charlie back.....I don't really know what to try other than extra special treats & cudlle time. |
Thanks for the ideas, I realised that I had removed his blanket from the settee a while ago when tidying up so I have put that back and I don't know if I am imagining it but he does seem a bit better already. Fingers crossed. |
