spaying my pup and I have some concers Honey will be one in October. She is 7#. she will be spayed on October 9th and I would like to know do i need any supplies that the vet wont provide and you got your pup fixed were there any side effects. Did they gain weight have behavior changes or anything else. And also any other tips will help. |
I would ask the vet if she needs anything. But I put Sally in a baby onesie to keep her from her stitches. More comfortable than a cone, and adorable! |
I'll be having my girl fixed in either Nov. or Dec. Had someone recommend 7 months minimum instead of 6, which I'm thinking to go with 7 months myself (couldn't hurt to give a little more time). Our past girls that we had fixed had varied results. Both seem to do ok after surgery and we just simply kept an eye on their stitches. Granted the jack russell did chew out her stitches, but fortunately, she was near due for them to be removed anyways. Our past yorkie girl was a bit on the chunky side, but I can't tell if it's from being spayed or that we just over fed her. ^^;; Probably both. Our Jack russell girl tends to steal treats and stuff anyways and was already kind of overweight at the time. Ours didn't give anything to keep them from messing with the stitches, so maybe getting some kind of cone (could be the cloth kind too), a playpen/crate to keep her from running around so much, and maybe pajamas if the cone thing doesn't work. Nutri-cal and it wouldn't hurt to have a doggie first aid kit in general. |

I had 2 that were spayed. They had no side affects still wanted to jump on the sofa as soon as they came home, their behavior and personalities did not change, there was no weight gain, there was also no table food given, they had one treat a day which was a jerky strip only if they ate all their food, treat was always given after they finished eating. My pups at adult weight was 13 lbs, the other was 17 lbs. Both had beautiful slim bodies. I believe it is the hand outs, and table food that puts the weight on, not spaying. |
Here is a link to a soft cone made by YT member Mom to Hot Rod. The Kiss-E Collar I have had five female Yorkies through the years. I saw no behavioral changes, but some weight gain due to loss of hormones. Still, the benefits of spaying still outweigh the negatives. I prefer to wait until after the first heat and had any retained teeth pulled. |
