New owner questions I'm new to the site and until I registered I saw posts on this topic sorry for reposting on this but can't seem to find it again. I got my first yorkie in July I adore him and he's so darn cute... But my question is are their ears supposed to stand, what if they don't? No matter he's adorable. He also seems to be maturing rather quickly and the thought of neutering scares me :( Potty trying suggestions? He's as stubborn with this as my mini dachshund was on potty training thx sorry for so many questions |
Congratulations on your baby. Yorkie ears generally stand, but they look adorable also when they don't. Part of is genetic, but the weight of the hair can also pull them down. The top third of the ear is generally shaved, but to help a pup's ears to stand, you can shave the top half of the ears. Sometimes people tape the ears to help them stand, but often that's not necessary. It's best to combine neutering with having any retained baby teeth pulled. I prefer to wait until their growth plates are closed, but neutering is very safe with today's anesthesia. Welcome to YorkieTalk. |
Welcome & congratulations on your new baby! Trimming the ear hair & shaving the back top third of the ears should help them to stand. |
Congratulations on your baby boy. For potty training, are you using pads or aiming for strictly outdoor? I do both pads and outdoor for my boys. The keys to success are consistency, praise always for getting it right, limit roaming freedom in your home while training, supervise. thanks I have no clue if I'm responding in the correct area, this site is a bit difficult to figure out, at least for me. We have had some good days where he does quite well. Primarily using puppy pads,if in his iris pen he's very consistent using puppy pad. But let him out and look out! But difficulty house training I expected because the last puppy I house trained was a mini dachshund and it took a long time with her. As far as his ears/grooming I've had him groomed once so far but am already searching for a new groomer :( bad experience with groomer and my friends yorkies so back to searching. |
