Grooming Winnie Winnie is doing so much better with letting me groom her!! We have all the tangles out and I have been brushing her twice a day...in the mornings she is a little more annoyed with me than in the evenings...but I'm doing it anyway! I will admit that part of the problem was me....she is just so cute and I was spoiling her. She would say I don't wanna be brushed and I would let her go!! lesson learned! She still will not leave the clip or band in her hair alone...so I put it up leave it in for a while, or until she gets it part way out and then I take it out. She has such a great personality though! I was wondering...when I brought her home the breeder had her bottom shaved...around the "area" and her pants (not sure if thats the same term with yorkies as it is with huskys) but the back of her legs in other words. Should I continue to do this? She has a tendency to run before she's done...and then sits...and the poo smooshes into her hair...so I am thinking yes...but is this something bad if I want to grow her hair into a full/semi full coat? Thanks in advance! |

What a cutie pie! Kudos to you for taking such good care of Winnie and training her to be groomed. I would trim the "hiney hole" area, but please don't give her pants. Once the leg hair is long enough you can band it up and of course band (I like to braid) the long tail feathers. The ears should be trimmed to be tidy and the hair inside the ear canal should be plucked to help keep the ears dry - this will help Winnie to avoid yeast infections in her ears. |
haha ok so no more pants for Winnie! She will have a skirt :p I do pluck the inner ear with the hemostat I have from when I was a vet tech.....she reallllly hates that...but she's getting more tolerant of it. I haven't cut any of her hair since she came home...so I'm kinda worried about cutting something I shouldn't. I feel like she is going to be silky coat...based off of her parents. But I don't really have any experience with yorkies (until Winnie) is there a way to tell what coat she will grow into? |
