Best harness for collapsed trachea? I'm wondering if there's a good harness for a dog with a collapsed trachea? Leo does have a collapsed trachea, but it's not severe. He'll have his goose honks here and there, but it usually only happens when he's super excited, and sometimes when he eats too fast. The problem is we (my family) cannot take him on walks with the other dogs because he can't calm down, and will literally honk on the whole walk. When he sees another dog on a walk, he'll start to bark. I'm not sure if it's out of excitement or anxiety. He's pretty good at stopping...once the dog is out of sight. I have been looking for private trainers to take him to, because at his last training class he kept getting sidetracked by the other dogs and wouldn't focus. Anyways, back to the main topic at hand, are there any good harnesses out there? Thanks! |
Buddy belt or choke free. They can also have issues if there being walked when it's to hot. |
Definitely vest type of harnesses. Something that pulls on the chest than the neck. |
!! We LOVE our Chokefree, and they don't touch their necks. Lis Sis on YT sells them. |
I use the Buddy Belt on all three of mine. You can buy them from a YT member here, her user name is Maximo. |
Buddy belt hands down. They work fabulous with Keylo who has CT and they are well worth the money imo. |
dog Sounds just like my Spud. I use a puppia harness but I do not hook the leash onto the leash silver hook thing. hook his leash onto one of the straps that goes under his legs. So I am pulling from his side and not his throat. I almost bought a buddy belt but a friend had one and it looked like it cut into the dogs legs undernearth the front chest. Check it out but the puppia soft harness really works for my guys. I don't take them out when it gets hot. Spud does bark at every dog he sees and thinks he owns the street. |
I use puppia vest harness. Works great for bailey. |

This is the type/style I use for all my guys. Besides Yorkies, I have Chi and Lab. Totally adjustable, and the deep "V" gets the straps down away from their throats. They make this in sizes XXsmall to XXlarge. I've seen this style made by several manufacturers, so, as long as you pick one with a deep "V" where it goes over their heads will work well. Tip: Loose over the shoulders, snug around the chest/body, works best  Ref: Top Paw Dog Harness | Harnesses | PetSmart |

I use the Buddy Belt on my three, however, I don't take the youngest, Jilli Ann that is also in early stages of CP, (who turned 3 last week) for walks at all. Ever since the specialist ask that I not walk Zada, who also had collapsed trachea and passed away May 19th this year, we don't walk Jilli Ann. The dust and dirt they sniff when walking makes breathing difficult and just adds to the problem. We were also told to keep her as cool as possible, and not to excite her by saying anything to her when leaving & coming home. |
