Puppy Harness Where can I find a harness to fit my yorkie puppy? I've had to use a regular collar with her because all of the harnesses I've tried are too big. Where do you get your harness for walks? She is about 2 lbs 10 oz and 14 weeks. |
Lil Pals by Coastal pets makes a tiny velcro type in blue or purple that works and is not too expensive while they are growing. |
You could also look at ferret harnesses if the lil pals stuff is still to big. It's really not a good idea to hook the leash to the collar. I did that with my puppy when I first got her for a month or two and she now has collapsing trachea and I can't help but think it played a part. |
When I first got Marcel, I think I used a harness for cats, if I recall right...? |
I also use the lil pals harness that they sell in Petco, but you still have to be careful with pulling. Even though harness are better than collars, I have come to realize that even many harness do push against the neck when pulling. I realized this when Lexi started coughing when she pulled on walks and I also just got a Shih Tzu puppy and when he pulled hard while wearing the harness he also coughed. The top part of the harness that goes under the chest lays right on the bottom part of the neck and when pulling hard puts pressure on the neck. I still like the harness, but am just careful about pulling. |
I had the same problem, i just got my second dog and the lil pals harness(non-velcro) is still too big for her. I was able to find a really small one on baxterboo, the brand is east side collection. I also really love the scrappy harnesses on gwlittle, they go around the shoulders so they really are choke-free. They're pricier though at around $40 but worth every penny |
I used a kitty cat one too they work great for a little while so don't spend too much $$$ |
I use puppia harness vest in the story book pattern I have a 2.2 pound yorkie. The reasons I state the pattern is because that was runs smaller get the x small size. Got mine through Amazon.they have matching leash too. |
I got a tiny purple harness very similar to the Lil pals one at care-a-lot and it was $8 .... it fits her perfectly and she is 2#....there's also room to grow. |
dog Get a puppia harness. I like that one and I hook the leash onto the strap that goes under the leg so you do not pull on the throat. |
Chattiesmom makes a great silk harness. It is worth it to get one to fit now, then get one made to fit later. I love mine, and I got the matching leash. |
We used a kitten harness with Gina until she was about 8 months old, she weighs 4.2lbs now, bit was tiny for many months. Hope you find something that works for you. Cheers Quad & Gina:aimeeyork |
Puppia makes a nice wrap around step in vest harness that closes with velcro and a clip. They make an extra small that fits a very small pup if you can find it. I think Amazon has it. We had Gracie in one of these until she was trained well enough to use a strap type step-in harness. It was very secure. Puppia does have another type of harness that I do not recommend because it goes up to high on the throat area. The step in vest harness does not touch the trachea area as the other one does. You might want to go to their site to get the correct measurements. |
Found one from lupinepet.com they sell them at my vet office and they have a lifetime guarantee if they break bring it back and exchange for a new one, no receipt needed. The little pals one was huge and she walked right out of it lol! |
Don't ever think you caused it. A lot of yorkies are born with it and it is nothing the owner did. |
