New to the forums Good morning from chilly Manitoba! I've been lurking about the forums for a couple of weeks now, trying to learn all I can about Yorkies. We've adopted a 4 month old puppy and have had the pleasure of getting to know this little guy over the past month. He's 4 months NOW I mean :) He was a rescue which I find unbelievable. His first family surrendered him due to 'allergies' after having him almost 2 weeks, but their loss, our gain. We never EVER thought we'd have a small dog but it was love at first sight. Things are going pretty well, we've been crate training and he's awesome overnight. Goes to bed about 10:30pm and sleeps til about 6 when he barks til we take him for his walk. Housebreaking is going well, we take him for regular walks so very few 'accidents' in the house. Puppy pads are useless....he'll go anywhere BUT on those. He's got such a big personality and is a real sweetheart, no regrets :) The only negative in the whole thing is our 16 year old cat. We'd hoped she would accept him eventually but she's still just as mad now as she was day 1. Grumpy old thing. Anyway, I've rambled long enough...looking forward to learning more from you experienced Yorkie owners/parents! One forum related question though. Out of my 5 previous posts on this forum, 2 have had pop up messages that they need to be approved before posting. One eventually appeared but the last one never did. And that was in a thread I'd posted twice before without those ones being moderated. What's up with that? Is it because I'm new? |
Hello and welcome to YT:wavey: What a cutie you have, he's adorable! I believe the first 10 or so posts are checked by the moderators, just keep posting away and soon all your posts should appear instantly. I hope you enjoy your time here, this place is chock full of information on all aspects of yorkie care. |
Welcome to YT, and thank you for adopting a lil baby with issues the prev. owners didn't want to deal with. YT is filled with loving members that are eager to lend a helping hand and offer advise, suggestions and opinions. Enjoy your new baby. |
Wow! Very nice looking pup there! We rescued and old yorkie.. We're very happy with him but know he'll only be with us a few more years. Sounds like you got very lucky to have adopted a little guy that'll be around for a very long time. Congrats! |
Hi & welcome to YT. This is a great site with many knowledgeable and caring members! I think you are having posting issues because your new here. After a few more posts, you shouldn't have any problems. |
Hiya! Your boy is cute as anything! We are in a similar situation regarding cat sister/brother. My cat is 12 and still tries to dominate my Teddy after 8 months! They are slowly but surely getting along but it has been a very long process and requires constant supervision. Welcome to YT x |
Thanks everyone, I'm really enjoying exploring the forum :) |

He tries so hard too to get her to play. He brings her his favourite toys, he gets down on his tummy and does the head tilt thing and 'oofs' at her. He rarely barks, he just does this adorable little 'oof' thing when he wants to play :) She just hisses and stalks away. She's bopped him on the head a few times (claws in) when he's been too aggressive, but she yells at him a LOT. I'm holding out hope that when his puppy energy abates a bit that maybe she'll relax around him. |
Hi and welcome to YT! We do moderate the first few posts of new member to keep spammers away, it helps manage the spammers bc we then can just delete them right off. Your little kiddo sounds just adorable, sweet, and smart! You mentioned it was chilly where you are and all I can say is I WISH :p. Down here in the Phoenix, AZ desert, it's over a hundred degrees! Cannot wait for the cool weather to head our way. |

Any advice from cold climate Yorkie parents will be appreciated! Do you think it will be possible to continue our outdoor bathroom routine through the winter, or will we HAVE to work on puppy pad training? |
