Wow, I'm so sorry you're dealing with so much, it's unbelievable.

It sounds like your pet sitter hadn't been in your house for a few days before you got there.

It's hard to believe that a 30 year old is so irresponsible and clueless. He might not agree with the way you do things, but they're your animals and he should have followed your instructions. The amount you were paying him was very generous.

He should offer to make payments towards the vet bills, I understand not having the money upfront, but he should want to make it right.

He lives next door and currently not tied to a scheduled job. So was real flexible. Experienced with larger dogs and with references. $100 a day plus anything he wanted to eat out of the pantry or freezers. Young, ( 30) We are the same age as his parents.

I finally was able to talk to him coherently this evening. He thought we were exaggerating the problem of having the dogs all together. So he thought he would get them used to each other so it would be better for us.
He had them in the yard for an hour and told them "no" when they approached each other, so considered them fine.

Then he put them in the house without kenneling. Apparently believes that kenneling is un-necessary except in an emergency. He had never indicated that belief to us.

Got dinner out of the pantry, didn't think to close the door.

The house was smelly so opened all the bedroom doors for a cross breeze. Didn't notice any poop. I guess he cracked the windows open too.

The chickens have auto feeder, auto waterer and auto door that opens and closes each day. All he had to do with them is collect the eggs every other day or so. They are molting right now so not many eggs.

he forgot to latch the door. He saw the lab get one chicken and Koko get another and figured he wouldn't know what to do with injured chickens so just let them finish them off. When he saw there were more out he couldn't capture them without clueing the dogs in and figured they would get away from the dogs by flying or hiding. Right!

He feels he did really good by taking the lab in when his ear got swollen. The repair looked good so didn't think he needed the antibiotics. Didn't want to ruin our vacation so was waiting to tell us about the ear.

He feels responsible and bad, but doesn't have the ability to pay.

I let him know that he is not welcome around the house or animals again.

I told him the damage and the cost of vet bill which isn't done yet. at that point, I couldn't talk to him anymore. especially when he asked if I was mad at him.

Im done, Never heard such an irresponsible list of excuses for what he decided to do. Going to concentrate on getting the pups well and cleaning the house, keeping up with the husbands treatment and try to get him back home.

Maybe a bit of sleep and a cry would help also.

He was wrong and I would sue him sorry but he should not be aloud to get away with that or he will just do it someone else.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! I am speachless . First of all so sorry about your husband. Prayers then what you are dealing with . How irrisponsible can someone be. Those poor dogs big and little alike basicly left to survive on their own. Praying for you and your fur babies. Sorry you had to come home but thank God you did.

Im so sorry about your hubby and hope he is better soon, and the pet sitter, how horrible to walk into this, I would be shocked and mad as heck wtf was he thinking, I hope all is better soon with the dogs and your hubby, I live pretty close to you, Ill send you my number in a message

Lisa and Pic 09-09-2014 01:31 AM

I am so sorry for all that happened. I just cannot even imagine. :( Also, paying $100 a day. Wow.

When we leave town we get a live-in dog sitter and do not pay nearly that much. Usually a young relative and it has always worked out well. My DH laughs because he says I write a dissertation about taking care of the girls.

Anyway, prayers for you, your DH, and your pups.

margaritaville 09-09-2014 03:13 AM

Unbelievable, that someone could be so irresponsible. He should be made to clean it up.
I hope your husband is doing better and will soon be home and that your pup with the disc problem recovers.

Oddsock 09-09-2014 03:47 AM

The pet sitter is a dumb twit. Oh I wanted to call him something worse. You poor poor thing. I just wanted to hug you. What an awful mess and stress to come home too.
It wasn't his place to retrain your dogs or do things differently. Can't stand it when people 'think', instead of listen to why you do thing the way you do and do what they are paid for.
Hope you hubby gets better soon. It awful that you haven't been able to just come home and deal with him, without the added nightmare. I hope you have family or friends nearby who can offer some help. I'm so mad on your behalf.
Do hope you are able to get the rest you need to get through.

A cry is probably a good idea, I think I'd of been on my knees in pool of tears, when I saw that mess and those poor dogs and chickens. You were so polite to that nitwit, more than he deserved.

xFoxyx 09-09-2014 04:30 AM

OMG what a nightmare. I'm so sorry your husband is sick. I'm so sorry what happened to your dogs and chickens. Your neighbor is an idiot. Sorry, but he is. How about calling you. Ugh! I could slap him and I'm not a violent person.

Prayers for your husband and babies recovery.

that's how I feel, basically he felt he knew better about your animals than you did, must be a know it all, that's probably why he does not seem to have a steady job or any money, I hope you did not pay him anything. And the worse part is you live next door to him, so you will probably still see him, hopefully you have a big piece of property so you don't have to be in close contact all the time. I know you don't want to see him, but with your husband sick perhaps he could work off some of the bills like cutting your grass, but they you would have to see him, crap what a dilemma

mugwee1 09-09-2014 04:31 AM

Saying prayer's for you and your dear Hubby. I would at least ask him to help you clean up the poop mess it won't hurt him a bit and may teach him some responsibly. Hoping every thing get's back to normal quickly for you. Will be keeping you in my daily prayer's.

good morning update

Thank you for all the responses.
The husbands son and wife came over last night for a couple of hours to help. I got one room completely clean so Koko can have a good space to be in. She is hurting this morning with heavy panting again. on our way to our own vet for help this morning.
It is really hard to keep a min pin quiet and calm. They are like cat dogs. climbing on everything. She cant, but it doesn't stop her from wanting to and trying to walk on her back legs to be taller. She howled all night and while it is usually funny, last night I could have done without the noise. She has learned to crow like a rooster when she howls.

The husband is being monitored and the docs trying to decide what to do first. I will find out this morning. The cardiologist wants to put in a pacemaker today and his heart rhythm is very irregular. His heart rate keeps dropping into the 30's and he de-saturates. He is on oxygen and will come home on it.
The kidney docs want him to have dialysis today. They would have to put in a port to do this. He had a fistula put in a month ago but it is not ready to use yet. This was in anticipation of needing it in about 6 months. The only place he has they can put the port in is in the same area of his chest the cardiologist needs for the pacemaker.

So I don't know how they will resolve this today. Platelets and Plasma given throughout the night. His platelet count was very low. Don't know why yet. Not able to eat or drink or move without feeling nauseous. The meds are not helping.

More testing today, while I continue to clean. It may be unusual, but Im almost glad he is in the hospital and not at home. It wouldn't be safe for him to be here until everything is cleaned. The son is taking the day off work and will be here with his wife to clean today as well. Tried to call in a cleaning service- they wouldn't do it because of the biohazard.

As far as having the dog sitter help clean. I don't know how civil I can be with him. The son already told him that he was a dumb a**. He was in the back yard last night cleaning up the mess left there- away from the animals.

Maggie( the fighting yorkie) is shaking this morning as well. She had to be shaved down last night to look for wounds and because she was matted to the skin. It looks like she has some ear damage as well. She will go to the vet today also.

The lab is doing fine overall, he goes in today to have his ear surgery checked and is eating pumpkin for the liquid poop.

Lani Min pin 2: The cheerleader, brought me 2 mice last night and put them in my shoes as a gift.:)

Im managing. barely. I don't get strongly angry very often, it has a hugely neg effect on my health. I am very angry/ upset right now and trying not to completely lose it. We will see what today brings. Trying really hard to come out the other side of this with everyone safe and well, me included.

on an odd note. I was so tired and looking for a clean spot to sleep, I forgot we have a motorhome in the driveway. The pups and I will be moving into it today.

cont.

I am taking pictures and keeping a list of expenses. I don't know if I can do anything about it yet. But plan to check into it when everyone is safe and this cleanup is over.

Thank you for the suggestion. I didn't think of pictures until mentioned.

I am glad your husband's son and daughter are there for help and support. Praying you will get good news about your husband and you get some rest yourself
