OMG I don’t believe what just happened Cody was doing his impersonation Cujo thing on the back deck, running back and fourth into the house back out to the deck , telling me momma, momma come quick, come see, get it for me, I want it, gimme, gimme, gimme, must be that pesty lil squirrel again, so for the umptinth time out I go, is it a squirrel a bird, a deer, nooooo, it’s a little Carin Terrier running my fence line, I am giving Cody his new command word that’s “supposed” to stop his insane actions when he sees other dogs, does it work? Hell noooo. Behind this running Carin is a young girl early 20’s I would guess “walking” after run away dog, Cody is gated, he can’t get off the deck, although he is trying to leap over it, my deck is about 7 feet off the ground but Cody is mixed with kangaroo and can jump straight up in the air. The girl is “strolling” after the run away, apologizing to me because Cujo is just about frothing at the mouth. I holler to her you better get him before he gets into the woods. This pup is now running the back of my fence line because he hears Cujo, I holler, grab a branch, call him, make like your gonna throw it, yeah right, off into the woods the pup went. I tell her hurry up call him, she turns around and starts walking back to the road, I holler you better go look for him, he’ll get lost, she throws her arms in the air like “whatever” and continues down the road, I couldn’t believe my eyes. The dog had a harness on it, I am praying it had tags on it. I’ve never seen this dog, but many dogs are kept in back yards. I hope they live here and this pup can find it’s way back. I have a gut feeling they are visitors. What just happened before my very eyes is another reason Cody is going to obedience training. He needs to obey COMMANDS, not just the sit, laydown and stay ones. What I just saw is my biggest fear with my lil city boy, I think he would just keep running and running, but I would be there calling him, not walking away. I keep going out back to see if he comes out of the woods by me. Just what I need, no sleep tonight, we have coyotes here, I am sick. Guess there’ll be a sign on our cluster mail boxes, lost dog. |
Ugh I can't believe people it's like she didn't even try! Even the most well trained dogs do not always come in that situation especially terriers if they are tracking something. |
I am totally sick, NOOOOO, she didn't even try, she just let him go, he wasn't "tracking" he was on the lam, running, he stopped by my fence because cody was doing his Cujo thing. I think he wanted to play with Cody, but I have a high deck and fenced off back yard, no way for him to get into my yard. I keep going to edge of woods whistling for him and calling out to him, she is no where to be seen (the girl). I can't lay out food for him, I'll have every animal in the pocono's at back fence. |
Awe poor baby i hate thinking about a dog lost. I have seen lately in our buy sell ling in fb lately two missing yorkies . One was only 1 lb sounds a little to small to me. But how do they get lost. Mine is on a leash every where. Accept the dog park. Ugh why do people get pets if they not gonna take care of them. |
I can't believe the girl just walked away! How sad is that?? This is one case where I hope someone finds him & keeps him! I'm praying the little guy stays safe in those woods. Joan, I agree, the "here" command is so important! It could save your pups life someday. My Joey is a "runner". He doesn't know any commands yet, but I'm working on teaching him, and "here" is the first on my list. |

oh in the case of Bentley he was missing for a long time, when the couple returned they put up signs and called places like Animal Control but he was not seen. Around 5 months later someone that knew someone that knew someone tipped them off that he was living sort of hidden around 4 blocks away. They went and got him back. Shortly after he escaped the yard he was picked up by this person that decided to keep him. Had I not seen him running down the street I would have thought he was stolen. I also think it was dumb on the part of the couple to own such a dog living in a house with a bunch of people, she was an international flight attendant and he a model so they both traveled quite a bit leaving others to care for their dog. I am showing my age but this was about 35 years ago. |
