Dogs prefer petting! Thought this was enlightening, but not surprising! Now I know why my dog does not hear me. LOL! Dogs Prefer Petting Way More Than You Thought |
Interesting...ya know, this is good to know in terms of training and positive reinforcement too. Thanks for posting! |
petting Thanks.:-) Anything that helps in understanding how our fur kids works is good. |
This doesn't actually surprise me (only because I knew it already due to my neuroscience experience) BUT I think it will surprise a lot of people and think its great that you have highlighted it here. Dogs respond more to physical cues like eye contact, petting, nipping etc and less to voice because evolution has put less of an emphasis on vocal communication hence the lack of speaking ability for all animals apart from humans. This is why I believe it is sometimes very hard for we humans to communicate appropriately with mammals. We emphasize voice which is our fellow mammals less sophisticated mode of communication! Sorry, neuroscience is my chocolate. Thanks for sharing this!!! |
I've known this for years, I caress my dogs face or body, petting also, they feel your love and warmth from the touch of your hands. |
whoops forgot to add, thanks for the video for others that will read and heed. Lots of touching and petting for rewards. |
I thought this was common knowledge. Petting and cuddling with a dog triggers a big oxytocin release both in you and the pup. Probably one of the reasons you're less likely to have a heart attack as a dog owner and much more likely to survive one if you do have a heart attack. |
petting Yes I agree that petting a dog is beneficial but the part I found new and interesting was that verbal praise had little effect, unless specially trained to do this. I have always thought that verbal plus touching praise were both good. Glad some find this useful. |
