The dogs are feed human food for example, tacos, fried chicken, twinkies, ice cream, cookies, and salty luchron meats. Sassy is being feed a lot of this stuff of which I have asked this person to please stop feeding sassy this type if food. Please help me and now sassy runs to her because she loves all the unhealthy good she being feed. Please help! |
Please excuse my mistakes in the thread |
Thats a tough one. You are just going to have to tell the lady to stop feeding her that junk food. If your there you can stop it but if she is alone with your dog that is going to be hard. I don't know why she would do that. It is not her dog. |
That is a tough one. It's easy to supervise when you are there. I can't think of anything short of locking her in your room when you are not there. |
wow, a toughie for sure, I agree with all others, if you are there you can supervise, unless your lil stinker sneaks off on you. All this food is BEYOND unhealthy. Gezzzz, I think I'll have to agree with yavenay and LOCK her in your room. Good luck. |
:bulb: idea, you can give us her phone # we can call her, advise her how she is killing her dogs, now yours with this horrible food. Maybe she would take heed if she got 15000 calls. Just a thought:confused: |
I'd just explain to her that a Yorkshire Terrier is a breed in trouble, prone to IBS and pancreatitis and rich food could give her raging diarrhea and vomiting which can lead to serious gastroenteritis and even literally kill her if her pancreas becomes inflamed by too rich a bite of something. Read up on gastroenteritis and pancreatitis in Yorkshire Terriers if you aren't already full of facts so that you can argue your case intelligently. My Tibbe had a cast iron stomach for years and could eat anything I fed him until one day he couldn't - and then life changed a lot. Much suffering on both our parts - quite literally for his part, long nights of worry, countless vet visits, hospitalizations and thousands of dollars later, now he's on the strictest of hepatic and IBS diets and I would physically walk over and stop anyone trying to harm him despite my warnings by feeding him human food. I wouldn't take the chance if I were you on my baby developing pancreatitis because this woman doesn't know enough to care. Stand up laughing, say "You forgot what I told you - this could hurt her and being a Yorkie, even possibly kill her", dash over and take the food from her before she's got a change to hand it to your Yorkie if she can't catch on any other way, smiling all the while but standing in there for your baby. If you have to, start leaving her in your room during meals or whenever are snacks out for the meantime until things get settled. |
Jeanie gave you some great advice. . . . also supply her with some healthy treats she can give instead. |
agree with Jeanie explain in detail the health issues that will happen in the future if she continues feeding your dog and also explain to her that she will be paying the bills that will pile up along with that. Maybe that will scare her enough. I hope she stops as I would be freaking out!! Sometimes it doesn't take a small breed years and years of eating bad stuff. Wishing you the best in this situation. |

excellent advice and very diplomatic which is the best route given your situation my mother in law fed teddy pieces of sausage over the weekend when I took him to their house for a visit. She thinks I didn't know, but I know she'll do anything to MAKE someone/thing like her, so I will be extra vigilant in future and explain to her that Yorkies have very sensitive stomachs. I think people forget that animals aren't human and harm them with kindness. Since she is being nice in her own way, your best route would be to gently educate her for your dogs sake. Good luck!!!! |
perhaps you could ask your vet to talk to her and then bring her in for a chat so he could explain how a diet like that could lead to pancreatic disease and the love she thinks she is offering up in the form of treats is almost like feeding a dog poison |
