More shots? I took Pips for shots and he has had five way at 7, 9, 11 and a 9 way at 13 weeks. They wanted to another 9 way with the rabies shot at 16 weeks and I said I would prefer to split. They did the rabies at 16 weeks. Does he really need another shot at 17 weeks (a 9 way)? My daughter is a vet tec and she said he has had enough, anyone have any advise? He is 3.4 lbs. I am thinking he is all done. He does not go on walks in our neighborhood. We live on 2.2 acres and he will only be out to potty and straight in on a leash. |

The 7 week shots don't count (vets know this), so he had to have 3 more round of puppy shots, a total of 4. Then, it's the 1 year booster shot. Not sure why they want to do another @ 17 weeks...that's too many shots. What is a 9 way? 9 shots in one? |

Recommended for vaccination against canine distemper, adenovirus cough, hepatitis, parainfluenza, parvovirus, and four types of leptospirosis. The parvovirus portion is modified live canine cell origin. Canine adenovirus-2 (CAV-2) helps provide protection against both canine infectious hepatitis and tracheobronchitis (kennel cough). Give subcutaneously or intramuscularly. Please note: The term "9-way vaccine" refers to a 7-way vaccine that provides protection against four types of Leptospirosis rather than two. For me I would never get this for Buster seems too excessive but that is my completely uninformed opinion. |
Wow, your kiddo's shot schedule was totally messed up. I'm so sorry for that :(. First, they shouldn't have even given the one at 7 weeks old, it's useless. Second, they should've waited 3 wks between the series...meaning, if they gave the series at 9 wks, the next one should've been 12 wks, the last one would then be 15 weeks and he would've been done then - except for rabies. Now, you're stuck w/ the last one given at 13 weeks, which is controversial and really stinks bc, really, the last shot series should be scheduled to be done btwn 14-16 wks old bc of the maturity of the immune system. Also, I'd never give a 9-way as I don't allow them to give lepto vaccines to my kiddos. So if it were me, I'd have your daughter talk to her vet boss as to how they screwed up the schedule. The question would be "Can we end the last series at 13 weeks, or it absolutely necessary to schedule the last series when the immune system is at least 14 weeks old?" -- that's essentially what you're asking. |
I think I'd get Titers done... not worth the risk for such a small dog.... |
