Teeth extractions My 10 year old Yorkist had 27 teeth pulled today. I have had her 3 years as a rescue from a puppy mill. I had a vet clean her teeth a year and a half ago and he just said Yorkies have issues with teeth. When I took her back he said she needed her teeth cleaned again. Now I am seeing a different vet who said she needed 13 pulled. I don't think this happened overnight. Today she ended up pulling 27 and said they had to be careful not to fracture her jaw they were so bad. I feel like a horrible owner. Has this happened to others?: |
It is wonderful that you were willing to take her in as a rescue from a puppy mill as you did. You have had her 3 years of her 10 so maybe the teeth problem came from her life in the situation she was in before you. I don't think you are a bad Yorkie Mom. It is not an easy thing to know about the needs for a dog's teeth. You have to learn about it as I did. I know you must feel so bad as she lost so many teeth all at once. That is so very understandable and is why you feel like a bad Mom. I would too. I learned about brusing teeth but that does not always keep them from losing teeth either. Hope she does well now. |
It's genetics. My three year old has had four dentals in his life, three done by a vet dentist. He had 10 teeth pulled. It's been about a month since his dental, I brush every day and rinse his mouth with a water additive called Healthy mouth. He is already showing some slight tartar buildup, I have to really focus today on that one area that I saw. So don't feel like a horrible owner. Some dogs like my 14 yo male have beautiful teeth with few problems. Others don't have the luck. |
