Cone of shame alternative for spay help! Hi, I'm not sure if this has been posted before but I've had a good look through and can't find what I'm looking for. Penny is 5 months old and still under 5lbs (so very little still) she is due to be spayed in about a month or so and I want to get prepared. She isn't the timid type, she's mental! So she's the kind of dog that definitely will go for her stitches. I'm looking for a standard cone alternative for her that doesn't restrict her vision and movement too much. I think before while browsing the forums I came across something which looked like one of the inflatable rings but was like a patterned cushion that goes around the neck. I can't for the life of me find anything like it now I actually need to buy one. I'm from the UK so anything here or somewhere who would possible ship to the uk would be great. Any help would be much appreciated. Want her to be as comfy as possible. Thanks in advance, Danni & Penny |
My foster could get off the cone in a few minutes, no matter what I did. So, I bought two sizes of onsies and they worked very well. She also weighs five pounds and I found out that the newborn size fit her and the preemie did not. |
A human babies onesie will do just fine. Go to like a TJ Max or something so you're not spending a lot on it and then see if they have a premie version so it fits your little one. |
I did the same thing. I actually found a tiny shirt in the Dollar store. Put that on her and she was just fine. |
Thanks for your help. I did think about a baby onesie but I was worried we wouldn't get there quick enough to undo it when she needs to pee. She still sometimes goes on a pad when we don't get to the door in time. Also when we leave her in her crate she has the odd accident. How far down will the stitches be? Would it be realistic to cut a whole so she can still pee and poo with it on? X |
1 Attachment(s) Cut a hole in the back lower part of the onesie. Leave the edge with the snaps, and make the hole just large enough so that the tail can go through the hole. She will be able to go to the bathroom without taking it off, and the snaps can still be secured so that it will hold the onesie in place to cover the incision: |
3 Attachment(s) I bought an inflatable cone for Gizmo that seemed to be comfortable. He was able to eat and play with it without running onto the walls and furniture. It was like a little pillow when he slept. Petco and Petsmart carry them. |
I bought a soft one for my Diva after her LP surgery. It worked well and she was still able to get around with it. ![]() |
This is what I have used and works great but still let's them be comfy. The Kiss-E Collar not sure if she ships to the UK or not but she is a member of yt. |
Tecsos sell onsies 3 for £7, for newborns that are adorable and will probably fit your little one. Also it's not to hard to make a cloth cone, think there are patterns online. I made one for Pippi, awhile back, but she's not had her op yet so haven't used it with her. It can be made to slip on the collar, if you were worried about them it slipping off. Or of course you can buy them. I think amazon.co. uk sells them also. They used to sell the blow up ones, I expect they still do. Good luck with the op, let us know how she does. Will be thinking of you. We'll probably be booking Pip in this month also. She also is the sort to chew her at the operation site. cone http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_...%3Acone+collar or pj's ![]() |
Yup, we used a onesie with a cut out potty area. We only had to use it a few days, then she forgot about her boo boo. |
