I've always said that anything that gives me an even 1% increase in a chance to get my lost or stolen baby back - sign Tibbe up for it. Tibbe's had his since he was 9 1/2 mos. old and he's now 7 and never turned a hair after it was placed. I had to be sure I went and updated the chip website with correct contact and vet info and redo it after Hurricane Sandy when the chip website lost some data and apparently their system restore didn't work properly. But just anything I can do to increase his potential return to me, I'll take those odds. However small they might be, I see it as better than w/out them. |
I had a a Bichon called Toutou for 12 1/2 years. We lost her over two years ago to heart problems. She was mico chip when we got her and no problems. I'm getting Snickers done at the Vet when they say he can get it. The reason why I think it's good to have it done is; if you travel alot with your baby or babies you have an accident the dog panics and runs, you might just get them back. I knew some people this happen to. We do travel alot and go to France often, I just feel safer. Proud Moma of a new yorkie |
Crystal was 'chipped' when she was spayed, no problems in the three months since. I think its well worth the comfort of knowing you did try everything possible, in the awful event of a total loss. Bit like trying to get life insurance, after you've been diagnosed for a terminal illness? |
My vet checks chips with every new patient. She tells stories about all of the stolen/lost dogs she has found over the years she has practiced because of this routine protocol. I fussed at a vet once for not checking my pup when I took her in lonely to have her nails trimmed and had never been there before - and he told me I was absolutely correct, it should always be done. Recently at a dog show I had to see a vet for mine and the first thing the vet did was check the chip and a photo ID for me - if they did not match he says he will still treat the dog but will keep it and contact the police untilmitmcan be resolved Where I work we recently found a darling little dog running around in the parking lot and we were afraid it would get hit. Was a friendly little fellow, took him to the vet, he had a chip and while trying to find the owner we learned that the day before the owner and this dog had been in an auto accident out on the interstate and when the firemen pulled them out the dog was so scared he took off across the field. When I took the dog up to the hospital to see the owner you can not imagine the joy!! We kept that pup for 3 days while the parient's wife came from 5 states away. I would do anything I could to assure my baby got back to me. She is tiny and has had her chip for 5 years with no problems. |

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: This! Thank you for sharing. This is exactly why I want all my pets chipped. You never know what can help bring them home. I want all my bases covered and it's reassuring so many vets are checking and following up on chipped pets that don't match their "owners". I'd like to find out how to add our photo to Billi's chip. Can any company do that or only specific ones? Does anyone know if any of the companies put a "flag" on chipped pets that are reported stolen? What a valuable amenity of they did/could. |
