One Crate or two Hi everyone...I am a newbie to your forum and to owning Yorkies. I just wanted your opinions on crating. I have a 10 week old female who I crate overnight and I am getting a male at the end of September. I wanted to know if it is best to let them sleep together and buy a bigger crate that will fit both of them or should I buy another small crate and let them have their own space for overnight. |

I would think it's probably best to start out with 2 at least so they can get acclimated to each other before they have to share space. The older pup might need a little time to adjust to the new pup. Who knows after a few days they might choose to be together. |
I would definately get a second crate. Pups need their own "safe" places, even if they are the best of friends, they need a place to get away. |
I didn't use crates at all bc all my dogs just hated them. But if I were to crate, I think I'd try 2 to start and go from there. |
We always have separate crates for each dog. It's nice that they can have their own space to go to. It has also come in very handy at times when they have to be fed separately due to medications administered with food. |
I would do two separate crates. I would also make sure to spay your girl around 6 months old before her first heat so you don't have any oopsies. |
I second getting two crates, especially if you're going to have the crates closed during bedtime. I know for my two pups, although they get along and can play with each other, sometimes they'll get into a scuff if one steps on the other's paw or tries to sit on top of them while the other is sleeping and I'd just want to avoid any preventable altercations. They should be able to get away from each other and have their own little private space. |
Definitely 2 or a crate for one and a playpen or xpen for the other but if your going to crate train youll need 2 crates |
