Gizmo seems in pain... Help! Gizmo had one tooth extracted today and he seems to be in pain. He ate but hasn't drank water or peed yet. He whines a lot, will sleep, wake up and start whining again. He sits there quietly looking around for a few mins and then whine again sometimes really low. Is this normal? They gave me pain medication but I start giving it to him tomorrow morning. |
Awwww...I bet he is in pain. Did they say why to start him on the pain med tomorrow instead of today? What time was his tooth pulled? |
Yeah, I'm interested in why he's supposed to wait a day before starting these pain meds. If he's in pain now, then he should be given the meds now... If your vet has a message line, I'd ask them if you can give it sooner and tbh, I prolly would give the medicine early anyway. There's nothing as heartbreaking as seeing our little ones hurting. I hope your boy gets better soon! |
he may have had a shot for pain relief, so that's why they said to hold off on the meds. I think that's what the deal was when our Ellie was spayed |
When mine were spayed/neutered they gave them an injection of pain meds. That plus the anesthesia I was told to wait 24hrs. The next day they seamed fine but I gave the pain med anyway. The day after that I held off and they were fine. If he seams in extreme pain I would put in a call to the vet. |
Update.... Good morning YT! Gizmo seems better this morning but still whimpers a little, definitely less than yesterday. I just gave him his pill so hopefully that will help him today. He's eating but not drinking water. If I dip my finger in the water he will lick it off, but only twice. I'm afraid he's gonna get dehydrated. I am mixing his kibble with water so it mushy, but I don't think that's enough water. Any suggestions? ::confused: Thank you for responses, I really appreciate everyone on YT!:) |

Latest update... Gizmo was back to his old self on Sunday morning, but still not drinking a lot of water. He didn't seem to be in any pain. :) I was able to give him his medication in the morning and afternoon, but he was not having any of it last night and this morning. I tried everything. :( When I actually got down his throat, so I thought, he just sat there looking down and I said "All gone" and he shook his head so hard the dang pill went flying... ugh! I call the vet this morning and they said it was okay if he went without as long as he wasn\'t in pain. He hasn\'t whimpered at all and is chewing on his soft, very soft chew toy with no issues. :animal36 |
Happy to hear Gizmo is back to himself. I\'m picturing the pain pill flying out when you thought he had swallowed it -- our first dog was like that. She could spit things out 10 minutes later. :p Hoping he doesn\'t need anymore pain pills. |
He doesn\'t seem in pain, but he really didn\'t eat yesterday. He barely touched his dinner. This morning he ate almost all his breakfast, but no water. I am still making his food mushy with water. I\'m not sure of I should be concerned, any thoughts? |
Do you have any soft canned food? He may not be eating due to pain, or it could be his tummy is upset. So long as he\'s getting water in, that\'s good, but I\'d encourage him to eat little bites. Billi makes me feed her by hand when she\'s not feeling good. Maybe try feeding him a couple bites like that to get his strength up... |
