Public displays of affection So I like to take my Cookie Monster out on walks at the park, but if I pick her up for a yorkie kiss in front of everyone I get a paw instead. And then as soon as I get her back in the car behind the tinted windows she's little miss affectionate again. Oh yes Chris, that was a fun walk, I like giving you yorkie kisses now that no one can see me. |
Oh, how cute! Just like a kid!!! |
I have one better, I can't get any face kisses from Cody, I'll pick him up, hug and squeeze him, when I go to give him a kiss, he turns his head away lol, I ask for a kiss, I get "the eye". Yesterday I had to pick up my car from the mechanic, I called car service (taxi, cab), they send a mini van, Cody is use to me picking him up to set him in his booster seat, so he is hoping, hoping to jump in this van, the driver is laughing telling him come on you can do it, so I pick Cody up, set him on the seat, Cody moves forward and gives this guy face kisses!!!!!!! I apologize to the driver who says he has dogs and loves all dogs and it's ok, I say no it's not ok because he won't give me kisses but he gives them to strangers lol. How do you like them apples lol. He'll kiss a stranger but not his momma, go figure lol. |
Dogs instinctively lick us for many reasons. They initially lick not to show affection but as a means of greeting behavior, appease their other pack members or learn about them, what they've been eating or take in more scent or show extreme submission. They lick because they enjoy human's salty taste or to soothe themselves - for something to do. After a while of living with humans, I honestly think some of them learn that we see it as a show of affection or good and appease us with licking to possibly show affection but that is mere surmise on my part. |
Oh good, I thought she was seeing another owner on the side! |
