Yorkie coloring Has anybody seen a yorkie this color at 3 weeks old? Sorry, I'm not sure about exact color names but the parents are both the light tan heads with light silver/blue bodies. The two other puppies in the litter are the average tan and black colors. But this one is black with dark brown (not a lot of it) and has a white spot on his chest and a tiny spot of it on his back feet. You can't tell from the picture but his feet are dark brown (or tan?) as well. I am just curious if he will stay this dark? I didn't really want an all black one. |
Hi welcome to Yorkietalk :) I don't think your picture posted. This link has a video that shows you how to post a picture if you need help. 2013-08-05_1716 - paragoncasework's library |

I have never had any pups that dark at three weeks. Are both parents full blooded yorkies? |
I would bet that he stays dark. His tan might lighten up some. You just never know. Regardless, they are both adorable. |
they almost look like Rottweiler pups....lol |
Both pups are adorable, but I must agree with bjh, I have never seen a 3 week old pup that dark. It's all in the generics, a roll of the dice. I don't think anyone would know what color he would be as an adult. You could try asking the breeder for photo's of the sire and dams parents, did you see the puppies parents. |
Both parents are full blooded yorkies, AKC registered. The breeder has never had one this dark either and is not sure. Should I change to another puppy? They look huge in this picture but are actually average sized. |

I have always had yorkies growing up and I have never ran into this problem getting one! I was unsure if this meant something strange or if it was a normal color. After searching I have found very few. I saw the grandparents to the puppy as well. They are all beautiful. I wanted to get the black but my husband is a little unsure! I am going to take a chance and hope he turns out with at least a little color! He was the one I immediately went to. |
When you say stay dark do you mean all over or just his body? His face surely should have another color if he is purebred? Correct? |

Thank you, matese. I was just a little concerned that having that dark of a face so young would be an uh oh in the breeder's dogs showing up. If that makes sense. I'm going to stick with him and will update his color as he grows. She will be sending me pictures until he is ready. Hopefully he grows to be a yorkie and not a poodle coming out from previous generations, even with AKC! |
Wow, bjh. She is beautiful! That makes me feel better about the dark face. I was just concerned about this meaning the mom was not purebred, as you asked me earlier. Thank you! |

Thank you guys so much for discussing this with me! Even though my mom and I have had our share of yorkies I am not that knowledgable about the colors or really even the standards. It's nice to have people who know what they're talking about! I am just glad to have a puppy waiting on me. My 8 year old Tinkerbell, who is 2.1 pounds was diagnosed with a brain tumor yesterday. It is devastating and so odd that I was already buying another before I found out. Although, Tink could never be replaced! We basically rescued her from a puppy mill while on our way to a reputable breeder to buy my grandmother a yorkie. Black, white, or purple this puppy will be special! Thank you! |

They aren't sure. She will go to the state vet college this week and we will know more! |
I will be praying for her. You might want to start a thread in the sickness section so we can all stay informed on how she is doing. You might also find some others on here that have dealt with the same problem. |

Isn't that just the most interesting thing about Yorkies, you never know what you end up as far as adult colors are concerned. I must also add that, even though I have almost zero experience with Yorkies compared to most of the other families on here, I've never even seen pictures of one quite as dark... but he's adorable non the less! |
