Chocolate Yorkies, Parti, Biewers etc... I know a few member have them here and of course they are soooo cute, but I have a few questions that I need clarified....... 1. How does the Chocolate come in to the gene pool? 2. Can a Yorkie, Parti, Biewer that is Chocolate be AKC? How and why? 3. WHY would anyone, other than for gain and cuteness, breed for chocolate? |
What's up with the Chocolate Parti Yorkie? Talk about upping it a notch. |
I saw a breeder advertising Chocolate Parti's and I have hard enough time figuring out the whole Parti thing but anyway...the Chocolate, I have little to no "real" education on...so before I assume anything I need to know more about it................ |
Here are some interesting articles on the parti, chocolate and blue yorkies: Goldenray Genetics Chocolate Yorkies Red Golden or Yorkie Blue Borns CDA Goldenray Genetics Parti Yorkies Parti Color and Biewer Colors Genetic Studies Goldenray Genetics of Blue Tan Coat Color Yorkies Coat Color Personally I only like and breed traditional yorkies because that is what I like. Why do other people breed the non-traditional yorkies? Just because they can and because that is what they like. That's what it boils down to. No one will ever convince me that all these off colors just happened. I feel sure something different was mixed into the yorkie gene pool to create the different colors. |
Thanks, bjh...now what about the AKC thing? I'm still trying to understand all this, does this mean they CAN be registered AKC because their parents are etc? Can a Chocolate Parti be AKC? |

Biewers are not AKC. But any yorkie in any color as long as both are AKC can be registered. They just have a color fault. |
I'm late to this thread, but if I recall correctly, the chocolate allele in Yorkies was bred in from another breed. The chocolate allele has a very specific DNA sequence, and it's been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that it did not occur spontaneously in Yorkies and had to have been bred in from another breed carrying the chocolate allele. I believe that this is the relevant article: Coat color DNA testing in dogs: Theory meets practice |
