How to Find Vet Specializing in Small Breeds I have read on this site a few times to make sure and find a vet that specializes in small breeds of dogs. How do you go about finding such a vet? Do you just start calling vets out of the phone book and asking? I live in the western suburbs of Chicago (if anyone has a recommendation) and I would prefer finding a vet that would know more about my Yorkie and Maltese than the average vet. Thanks! |
We dont have any near us but I would look them up in the phonebook. |
We are in the 'sorta country' outside of Dallas. Our vets claim to care for small animals up to horses and such. I find it a little hard to specialize on EVERYTHING! I wish you luck finding one. I did find one that answers calls at night and doesn't just refer you to the emergency clinic which is about 1 hour away. I also found that only ONE emergency clinic around here has the equipment for an emergency surgery on a dog this small. Just try to research before taking them in and know what you want before you get there. Stand by your guns! I have found people pediatric doctors can be the very same. Sometimes you know more about 'what ails you' than the experts. Just be informed. |
