poop eating and pineapple Lexi was getting better with the poop eating. I would tell her to "leave it" and she would. Now, she will still leave it, but as soon as we get in the house she will ring her bell. And I'm not talking about a normal ring, I'm talking banging into it over and over. If I let her out, she will go right to the poop to try to eat it. Even if she sees me pick up the poop, she will ring the bell like crazy and go back to the spot looking for the poop. It is driving me CRAZY!!! Anyway, I remember someone on here talking about giving pineapple to help stop with poop eating. A) does it really work? B) How much do you give a day? I will try anything at this point! Thanks! |
I am using the pineapple technique on my Stitch who is 9 months old. It works as long as I give it to him at every meal. I am using the chunk so I give him two per meal and am now sprinkling with solid gold SEP just to make extra sure he won't eat it. I like you pick it up as soon as it drops. Surely hope the habit stops at some time. Unfortunately I had a ten year old Toy Fox Terrier that never broke the habit. Good luck |

My dog eats poop too. I didnt know about the pineapple techinque |
Is the pineapple dried, canned or fresh? I'd like to see how this works for our other dog, Ebon because she seems to think poop is a delicacy. :( |
I bought some pineapple today (canned). The first time I gave her one, she licked it for a while and then slowly ate it. The second time I gave her one, she sniffed it and walked away! She is soooo picky with food. She does that a lot, where she will eat it once and then want nothing to do with it the next time. I will try again later and see if she will eat it. Hard to see if this will work if she wont even eat it! |
When my little Kinder was little she loved the poop eating thing. We tried stuff from the vet and no go. I bought the canned pineapple and gave about three chunks a day cut up in her food. She loved it but it took about six months to work. Every time she pooped on her pee pad I made a party out of it.I praised her and gave her a Fromms Cranberry treat. She just quit eating poop which was a puppy thing for her. I never said anything to her just using kindness and love. I really think the pineapple works but it takes time. Hope all goes well and it will in a little time. Susan |

How old is Lexi? Cookie used to be the queen of the poop eaters, but she thankfully outgrew it a little after turning one year old. |

Lexi is 7 months old. I can't get her to eat the pineapple anymore so I will just have to hope she grows out of it too! |
Get Lexi on a good probiotic & digestive enzyme. Bromelain in pineapple is what digests proteins, it's in digestive enzymes. Sometimes, pineapple doesn't work bc it only breaks down protein enzymes & doesn't help break down carbs from most kibbles. I would avoid foods heavy in potato or grains, that's what comes out the other end undigested & still smells like food to them. HowStuffWorks "Bromelain: Enemy of Proteins Everywhere " |
