Maybe Collapse Trachea Help So Sammi is 5 months old and had his last shot today I told the vet he does this thing like a quick gag for a split second. Maybe 2 times a day. She said he has a collapse trachea. Of course I am so worried because I had a dog that died from it years ago. But her symptoms where different than sammies like a honking cough. Does any ones dog have this? She told me some dogs is more severe than others. I just worry because if he is showing signs at 5 months what is he going to be like with a year!! |

Did she do any tests to check for a collapsed trachea or just diagnose based on what you told her? Never had experience with it, but I'm pretty sure there are tests they do to diagnose this. Lexi sometimes makes a sound (like she has a hairball) after drinking. I think it's a reverse sneeze, but will bring it up with my vet again. I hear so much about collapsed trachea, I think I'm just paranoid! |
My baby with a collapsed trachea (diagnosed after testing at 8 months old) lived to be nearly 15. |
wow 15 years old that's great it makes me feel better. What where his symptoms? |
My Zadas honking turned to having a difficult time getting the air in and out. We did everything for her but had to put her down a couple months ago at 9 years old. My baby Jilli Ann who will be 3 next month has a croup sounding cough. Took her in for x-ray Monday so should have results today. The Vet. did say that early detection usually doesn't show a collapsed trachea because it opens and closes, so catching it closed can be impossible. |
If you suspect he has tracea problems do not take him to get groomed. My Biewer has a narrowing tracea and I do all his own grooming, clipping etc. When I take him in for nails (Petsmart) I tell them he has to be held not on a lead around his neck. If you go to a place to get nails trimmed and they take him away don't let them do that - make them do in front of you or go elsewhere. The same thing with the knees (patella problems). The techs yank on their legs, it makes me so mad...I tell them he had bad knees just so they will be more gentle. |
