Helloooo Hello Im a newbie, had my 10 week old yorkie (x jack russel) for a week & she is my first ever pet!! Eeeeekkkk!! I have 3 kids - 2 girls 13 & 11 & my son who is 6. My wee lola is adorable but she doesnt seem to eat much! She ignores the morning meal, eats a bit of lunch then all her dinner but then I think she is hungry...Im not sure but she keeps kind of going to her water & sniffing around it.... Any ideas please?? I am feeding her what the family that had her fed her but maybe I should try something else?? Thanks in advance for any replies which will be much appreciated :-) Karen.xx |
Good morning and welcome to YT. |
Welcome to YT, and congrats on your family addition. I have no suggestions for you. Soon their will be others to offer suggestions and advise. Good luck |
:D Good afternoon Karen!!! And welcome from a fellow UK-er! :D Just to say, when Harry was a little bubby, we used to leave down a bowl of dried food (kibble) for him to graze on whenever he wished...in my opinion the littlies can never get enough of goodness, and will only eat what they NEED to eat....(that's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it!!! ;)). What food did Lola's breeder supply you with? Some of them are a bit rubbish and yucky - maybe Lola's smart woo hoo!!! |
We free feed dry kibble here and always have. I rarely see either of our dogs eat more than a mouthful or two at a time. As long as they're going potty, I figure that's ok. If you want to switch food, do it gradually, so it doesn't cause tummy trouble. And welcome to YT! Yorkies (and yorkie mixes) are the best! |
Hi & welcome Karen, and congratulations on adding Lola to your family! I free feed my guys, and always keep kibble available for them. What kind of food are you feeding? |
Hi Karen! Welcome to yorkietalk :) |
Thank you for welcoming me :) Ok so most are going with dry feed there at all times for her to help herself? Im trying to get toilet training done so with the 3 meals I was hoping that would be better for timing her.....but she seems to just do it whenever!! lol. Defo not half hour to an hour after... This morning after going to pee she only ate a couple of mouthfuls & is asleep again now...She is only 1.7kg so Id imagine she doesnt fit much in her wee tummy! Breeder was feeding pedigree pouches & bakers purina dry food, I have since read up on it though & it doeasnt seem to be a great choice! The vet gave me a bag of dry which I take it they suggest its the best one to have, I didnt ask as had too many questions for the time we had! Thanks again & soz this is a bit long winded!! Karen.xx |
:) Not long-winded - important!!! We too were given Pedigree pouches and Bakers dry when we brought Harry home, but for some reason he wouldn't eat it here! :D I changed him onto Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier puppy kibble, and also Lilys Kitchen Natural and Organic Dog Food and Cat Food | Lily's Kitchen which is all organic and holistic...he loved (and still loves!) both.... I wish you luck! :D |
Thank you harrysmum :-) Ahh Royal Canin thats what the vet gave me but it wasnt a yorkie specific one, its a small dog one, will maybe try her on that instead. How do I go about changing? Should I mix with the pouch to start with? KP.xx |
:) Thought it might be - vets seem to love it over here!!! Well, if I'd had the opportunity to change over gradually I would have - but the trouble was, after 3 days, Harry hadn't eaten a thing and I was getting so worried that I just put down a bowl of RC and he wolfed it down....not an ideal way of doing things, but I must admit he's never, ever had tummy problems with either that or Lilys. A little tip - when she's doing her wee-wees or poo-poos in the 'right' place - say "GOOD wee-wees, GOOD poo-poos" and have a little party....eventually (when it's raining etc!!!) you'll be able to take her out and she'll go on demand - very helpful!!! :D |
