New Yorkie Puppy Friday Hi, Just joined yesterday. Get new Yorkie male puppy 8 weeks old on Friday. Going to read all the great info on this forum. How long can a small yorkie puppy go without the need for potty? Do I need to get up in the middle of the night to take him outside if I have him go potty before bedtime? Thanks. |

Thanks.[/QUOTE Puppies that young and small cannot hold it for too long. So you will have to get up at night to let them out. Make sure you have a crate small enough so they don't have room to potty and sleep. That way he can let you know when he needs to go. When I got Lexi at 13 weeks she had to get up once at night to pee, but that only lasted about a week. Some pups continue to have to pee at night longer than that. Not sure how many times a pup that young will need to go, but others on here might have more experience. Congrats and good luck! |
Hi - welcome and congrats on your new kiddo! When mine were puppies, I used a little x-pen type thing to create an area w/ a bed, water, toys, and a pee pad - and that's where I'd have them sleep. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk. Puppies should generally stay with there mom until 12 weeks because she is still teaching them things like bite inhibition and socialization. You will also need to watch your pup for hypoglycemia which there is a higher risk for the younger and smaller they are. Mine had to go potty several times a night but I kept her in my bedroom so when she would cry I would take her out and then put her back in the crate. Now as an adult if she wants to she can hold it 12 hours but she is also larger at 17 pounds. |
