Please help ? Alfie is a little over a year now and i have noticed some strange things over the past few days: He has always liked to hump his teddies, but recently he has been doing this then taking HOURS to retract his shaft, resulting in him constantly licking it and walking funny. He has been drinking alot more water than usual. He has been peeing in the house - this he hasnt done since he was months old! He has been spending AGES peeing, like, I've been watching stand for a full 3 minutes with his leg up a tree peeing! I thought it may be a water or bladder infection, i was planning on taking him to the vets but i was just wondering if there is anything i could do myself before throwing money at the vets? Please help me out? Just earlier he ran downstairs and the second he got out the door he was peeing, poor boy didn't even have time to cock his leg :\ |
I would definitely take him to the Vet as it sounds like he may have an bladder infection or issue if he always held it and now can't. I do know that members have helped slide their Yorkie's "lipstick" back into the tube. It dries out and becomes harder to slide back in if it stays out. Best wishes to you and Alfie. |
Sounds like a trip to the vet would be $$ well spent. I don't have any experience with the symptoms you described, but it does sound like a urinary tract issue. |
I thought as much, i will book him into the vets in the morning. I used a wet cloth to dampen his 'lipstick' before helping him get it back in, he seemed super grateful as o got plenty of kisses! Hopefully the vet will give us some antibiotics tomorrow:) x Thanks guys x |
Yup, a trip to the vet is needed. Be SURE you discuss the possibility of both diabetes and Cushings. Does he have *any* other unrelated symptoms...pot belly, lethargy, heat intolerance, fur loss, excess hunger, skin/ear infections...anything? |
Agree! Off to the vet. It could be anything, UTI, stones, prostate or heaven knows. Is he neutered? Poor guy, I hope he is better soon. Please keep us updated. |
No he hasn't had any other symptoms same little mad dog, no he isn't neutered as im planning on breeding with him :D We've been to the vets today, i managed to get an emergency slot! They have said that he should be fine as the unexpected heat we have had recently may have caused him to drink more than usual. Also as he is playing alot he is forgetting to go to the loo! So when he does he has a full bladder ahah! Thank you all so much! |
Glad to hear he's ok! If it happens again, you might want to use a lubricant (friend's vet suggested KY gel) to put back in. |
Will do! Thanks! |
Glad to hear everything is good with Alfie. |
