My husband is PISSED! This morning while I was washing dishes, my son was in the living room playing on his tablet and my husband was still asleep. Lexi was also in the living room and I assumed she was sleeping like she normally does at that time. After I was done with the dishes I walk into the living room and see Lexi on the floor destroying a part of our carpet. She had pulled out a good 2 inch circle of the carpet. I was in shock, I had never seen her try to do that before. I was scared to tell my husband, but we had some extra carpet and he was able to replace a small piece of the carpet. He was pissed, but took it a lot better than I thought he would. I was just worried he would say I can't get the new pup we are planning to get the end of this month. Luckily, that is still a go! I just need to make sure she doesn't do that again. Has anyone else had their pup do that to their carpet? |
no but sometimes mine will dig at the wood floor. We only have indoor outdoor carpet in our bedroom which is not something we care about if it gets ruined. can you keep her out of that room? not sure how else to stop that from happening again. glad your dh got over it quick. |
Joel never did but my brothers Jack Russel did that when he was younger. After they convinced their landlord he would be fine, they had him in his playpen on the hard kitchen floor and he moved the whole playpen over the carpet and tore up a huge area of carpet. He was so upset. |
Magnus did a lot of damage to the EXPENSIVE oriental carpet in the livingroom when he was a puppy. Well.. along with other things like the trims, corners of kitchen cabinets, etc... I think it was the teething (maybe some boredom). Good news is, he got over that stage. Bad news is, there's a lot of small damages to repair. LOL |
Thank goodness she's not a great dane. Years ago our great dane puppy dug a hole in our new couch. Talk about a pissed off hubby. Thankfully they usually out grow that destructive phase. |
We don't have carpet, but we do have an area rug. My two like to pee on it occasionally, so I am hoping that if we get a new one, they will realize it's not a potty pad. Is Lexi a puppy? I would just keep her within your sights or put her in a pen if you can't watch her. I still get nervous if I don't see my two and they are 5 and 4. |
what happens often with puppies is if they see a snag in something, it starts them going, so make sure if you have loopy type pile that a piece is not sticking up that she could grab on to to start to unravel. I had a friend that had s**tzus that peeled a lot of the wall paper off the bottom of their dinning room walls, it started at the seam with a little loose piece and they took it from there |
The first time we left Luma alone as a puppy she somehow tore an entire tile up from the bathroom floor. That was two years ago, she did eventually grow out of that phase where she wanted to chew on the furniture, cords, and even walls. What really helped was to make sure she always had a toy or something to keep her occupied while we were busy. Her favorite for this is a tightly braided rope toy. Toys with stuffing or little plastic eyeballs/bits/bobs were useless and even dangerous as she'd always tear pieces off and try to eat them, but the rope toys are nearly 2 years old and she still hasn't destroyed them. Glad you still get your puppy. An exercise pen is extremely helpful when they are still little and getting into everything. |
Lexi is 7 months old and is usually really good about only chewing on her toys. I think she sometimes smells something in the carpet, like and old spill or something. I thought I could trust her alone for a few minutes, but I learned my lesson! |
The Yorkies haven't done it, but one of my golden retrievers pulled a 4 foot long section out of a Berber rug. The same dog also chewed a hole in my bathroom subfloor. That's not to say the little ones haven't done their share of damage. Scarlett ate the leg off a rocking chair and the corner off a window sill. Rhett scratched a hole in the dry wall. And Cali has left teeth marks up the corner of one wall (it looks like a mini growth chart!) |
Sophie Kate chewed like a mad woman when she was a puppy, I had to replace the base boards in the dinning room and there still isn't a TV remote in our house without teeth marks. She outgrew it finally but I had to keep her crated when I was not watching her. Also had to give her designated chew toys (Nyla bone). Lesson I got from her trainer is a bored dog is a destructive dog, I needed to give her something to occupy her mind. |

I have seen Lexi licking the baseboards before, but not biting them luckily. She did bite on the corner of one couch foot. The funny thing is I was sitting right next to her on the floor and didn't even notice until it was too late and the coloring was already scratched off. But like I said, she is usually really good, and has never even tried to bite cords or wires and trust me we have a lot of them behind our tv that she could get to. Gigi was a year old when she started to chew the corners of the carpet. She also chewed on the legs of the dinning room chairs. There is also a window sil that she hit. That period only lasted a few months, since then nothing. |
Sophie Kate was a chewer up to almost 2 years old, she still drags her Nyla bone out of the toybox and chews on it. Giver her a stuffed toy and it is destroyed in a matter minutes. |
Not the first time Well, it turns out this was NOT the first time she has done this. Went to put my son to bed with Lexi following. She went under his bed like she does sometimes. I stupidly never thought anything of it. Decided to get a flashlight and look under his bed, and I saw 3 or 4 spots about the size of the one in the living room. Might wait a while before telling the husband about those. At least you cant see them! |
