Is a 4 foot leash too short? I have been using a 4 foot leash but I noticed that a lot of times Chloe is walking ahead of me much faster than I'm walking.. because of this she pulls on the leash a lot. Is this because the leash is too short? What length leashes do you guys use? |
I use a 6 foot leash and still get the same reaction, I end up wrapping the leash several times around my wrist. For neighbor walking I think 4 foot is better, for field or park walking 6 foot is is fine. |
I have both. When walking on the street I like the 4 foot and around the yard I like the 6 foot |
I use a 6ft leash because I like to wrap it around my hand at least once and I wrap it to adjust the length depending on where we are. |
I don't like 4ft leashes for small dogs under 10lbs honestly... they're just so low to the ground, there isn't much room for slack anyway, you know? Example, if a Lab is being walked on a 4ft leash, they're very high up off the ground, but a little 5lb yorkie is going to be so low to the ground, it just doesn't give them much room. I do use a 5ft leash for 17lb Jackson for city walking or if we're in crowded places. But that extra foot makes a difference. I wouldn't like a 4ft leash for him. I use different leashes for different occasions. lol. We have a 26ft Flexi, a 50ft long line, 5ft, 6ft, etc... depends on the situation. |
I use a 4' leather leash. Works great for us. |
Having the longer leash will not necessarily stop pulling. Quote:
The 6' is nice for giving them more room, but I have to be careful on the sidewalk next to busy streets, even when there is a little grass in between. 6' is just enough to allow them to get off the curb. I believe height of the human also affects what size leash is comfy. I'm 5'9 and comfortable with the 4' leash. |

When we go camping, I use the Flexi occasionally too for morning poops, and take him to a large patch of grass in the campground. I use the 50ft leash when we're playing ball outside... even though he's 90% reliable off leash, I like to let him drag a long line in the case he smells something and decides to run off, I can step on the leash quickly. My dads yard is fenced and quite large which does make my life easier for morning bathroom time. |
Blazer walks on a 4ft leash. |
