carrying poop to another location.... Hey, ya know how cats will bring you a mouse or a bird... sort of like a gift? well, that's what my Teacup Yorkie does with her poop. She is nine months old. I thought we were getting this pooping thing under control. She starts out pooping on or very near the puppy pad, then she picks up the pieces and carries them to the same place in the other room on the carpet. I have discouraged this location by putting pepper on the carpet. So now it is right in the middle of the hallway. It's like she thinks I am too stupid to find it on the pad to throw it in the toilet, so she puts it in my path. She is getting worse at this potty training, than better. If she leaves it on the pad, I praise her while I am putting it in the toilet. and if it is off the pad I don't say anything, I just pick it up and put it in the toilet. I would like to GROWL at her. I am frustrated. any suggestions? |
She might be mimicking you... she watches you pick it up, so she's helping you! Maybe try picking it up after you've praised her and given her a treat, then block her view of what you're doing when you do the pick up. |
I apologize, but I can't stop laughing at the thought! Oh that must be so frustrating. |
Gosh, this is a tough one...and I don't have any add'l advice except to say keep on praising effusively and giving treats when she does it correctly. |
I'm sorry but I had to laugh but I have no suggestion. |
This is what I did with my Joey. He has a pottie box that he uses in the house. I would tell him what a good boy when he went in the pottie box. When he would for some reason go somewhere else I would always gently call him to me and proceed to show him what he should have done. I will tell him 'this is not the potty box' then I will pick up the poop with toilet paper and put it on the pottie box and tell him softly that 'this is the potty box' as I put him on the pottie box too. Sometimes he would potty on his toilet in one spot and then on the floor next to his toilet. So I would quietly call him to me and in a gentle voice I would tell him that his pottie on the box was good pottie. Then I would show him the pottie on the floor and tell him that"this is not the pottie box. Then I would pick up the poop with the toilet paper and set it on the pottie box and show him that this is where he potties. He seemed to learn from it and I never got upset with him as I know you are not supposed to do that. But I did feel he needed to understand what was the right place to potty and what was the wrong place. It worked for us and I hope you find the answer to your problem. It is unusual that your little one would move it with her mouth to a different place I understand but maybe the one who said she was imitating you had the answer. Hope it gets better as it is frustrating when they potty where they should not. |

Only laughing because Annie originally did this too. If I wasn't paying attention and going to look at her poop she would bring it to me and drop it at my feet!!! I just have to pay REALLY close attention when she comes dancing at my feet (My grandson calls it her "Poopy Dance") and quickly praise and treat her. When her back is turned, I then throw it in the toilet! |
