watermelon What is the best dry food for Yorkie? Can i give my dog a watermelon, cabbage, tomato, dry pig ears? |
You shouldn't feed your yorkie any type of pork, it is too fattening and not healthy for them in any way. No tomatoes either, it is poisonous for dogs.. and cabbage isn't necessary. Make sure you never feed grapes, raisins, onions or chocolate. Watermelon is okay and other fruits such as mango, banana, apple and strawberries. Vegetables are also good such as boiled green beans, carrots and celery. Sweet potatoes are also good as well as boiled chicken. You can check out this website for top rated foods: Five Star Dry Dog Foods | Dog Food Advisor I know many people feed Blue Buffalo, Wellness, Fromm or Merrick. |
Watermelon is fine in more limited quantities because of the sugar. My Katie loves it, and I give it to her when she's playing hard outside. She cools off in a baby pool, but I want her to get more fluids. The watermelon really helps. I home cook for Katie, but I use a small amount of kibble left out during the day. I like Fromm and Orijen. I would stay away from Pig's ears. They are much too fatty, and I'm not sure about whether they cause blockages. Many people give their pups bully sticks. Try to buy the odor free ones. Tomato is controversial. The red part of the tomato is fine, but not the green unripened part and also the plant. |
I like Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier. I would never give pig ears that are way to fatty and could cause some serious issues. Watermelon and tomatoes I believe are ok but not sure about cabbage. |

I feed Royal Canin and have since the '70's....maybe started early 80's cant remember.....excellent food, scientifically proven clinical trial outcomes for complete and balanced formulas, dogs love it, and quality control second to none. I feed watermelon, tonatoes, cantalope, carrots, green beans, cucumbers, apples, mangos, banannas, peaches, plums, potatoes, scrambled eggs, avacado, etc, etc....no grapes, no raisins, no pork products, no candy especially chocolate, they will eat salad if I hand feed pieces of the lettuce, spinach, zuccinni, yellow squash, egg plant, ....Now this is not things they get every day, and they get any of these only a few bites, except the watermelon which they love and we eat outside, and the cantalope, several little "hogs" that are on diets get green beans with their smaller ration of kibble daily, to help fill them up.....but I must say none of my dogs have gastric issues and no genetic issues with any organs, so they have no sensitive tummies, kidneys, livers, pancreases, etc.... that need to be protected/ pampered..... |
Tomatoes are "barely poisonous" to dogs. I personally don't feed my dog anything that's considered "barely poisonous." Can Dogs Eat Tomatoes - Are Tomatoes Bad for Dogs? |

I give mine tomatoes, cabbage, and watermelon all the time. As well as corn kernels, mangoes, blueberries, apples, broccoli, edamame, carrots.... lots of fruits and veggies as long as they are raw or steamed with no salt or seasonings. Would never give pig ears. Those are for me! (Taiwanese pig ears!) |
