Standing ears.... Sheldon's right ear is starting to droop. They were standing a few weeks, but now it's droopy. I know this isn't a big deal for most, but I want his ears to stay erect if possible. I did trim the hair on the top third of his ear, and it's a bit better. I have considered taping, but since I've not done it, it seems it may be difficult with a wiggly pup. I've read a few techniques for taping on the web, but was wondering if anyone had any simplifying tips for me? Or do you think the ear will perk back up? Any thoughts are much appreciated. And, just as a side note for anyone who is curious, he is doing FANTASTIC. I'm grateful that the first few days have been rather easy. He crates well, he uses a potty pad and goes outside, is pretty good with recall, eats and sleeps well, loves the kids. He is just such a joy already. |
Ears droop goes along with tooth development... or other parts. If they were standing at one point, they will again all on their own. So glad he's doing well... sounds like you got very lucky! |

The ears do droop when their are teething. Most likely they will come back up on their own. Just keep the hair trimmed. A tip that was passed on to me for someone else's vet is to add about 1/4 tsp of Knox's unflavored gelatin to their food twice a day. It seems to really help. |
You can gently massage the base of the ear where it meets the head, a few times a day. Most likely he is teething as other have said and their ears do this up one day down the next. |
When you tip the ears, you need to do both the inside and outside of the ear. ANother thing you could consider is shaving down lower on the ear instead of 1/3 go to 1/2, unless of course this is to be a show dog. |
Ears up ears down 1 Attachment(s) Sometimes when they get shots they can droop also. It will be back up in no time. Happened to my little one before. |
Yeah my 10 week old one ear dropped again. He just cut molars and has now list all side teeth uppers and lowers. it's a teething thing and will pass. |
Thanks, everyone. |
